POLITICS UNDERMINE GOD'S WORK IN KENYA
1. Defiling the Sanctity of the Pulpit
The Action: Politicians historically use church services and harambees (fundraisers) as campaign platforms to exchange insults, threaten rivals, and brag about wealth.
The Spiritual Impact: This turns the house of prayer into a theater of political competition. It directly violates the sanctity of worship. This has forced bodies like the NCCK and Pentecostal leaders to officially ban politicians from speaking inside sanctuaries.
2. Compromising Church Integrity with CashThe Action: Leaders use large cash donations to purchase the loyalty and silence of the clergy. The Spiritual Impact: When the church accepts unverified money, it loses its prophetic voice to rebuke societal evils. Prominent leaders have actively rejected millions in cash donations to shield the church from being an accessory to corruption.
3. Fanning Tribalism and Division
The Action: Scriptural alignment demands national unity and love. Politicians regularly deploy "ethnic mobilization" and hire political goons to split Kenyans along tribal lines.
The Spiritual Impact: This violates God's command to love one's neighbor. It fosters a dangerous environment of political intolerance and hatred.
4. Oppressing the Vulnerable Through Corruption and Tax Burdens
The Action: God’s agenda explicitly protects the poor (Proverbs 14:31). Massive governance failures, systemic corruption, and punitive fiscal policies, like the highly contested Finance Bill, push vulnerable families into extreme poverty.
Spiritual impact:Economic injustice is a direct sin against the population.
1. Steals God-Given Dignity: God created everyone with equal value.
2. Denying people fair wages, basic needs, or economic opportunities reduces them to tools of exploitation instead of bearers of God's image.
3. Violates Divine Justice: The Bible strictly forbids dishonest scales, corruption, and systemic greed (Amos 5:24). When leaders hoard resources through graft, they are actively robbing the poor.
4. Oppresses the Vulnerable: Scriptural law commands the protection of widows, orphans, and the poor. Creating punitive taxes or policies that crush the lower class is a direct attack on those God explicitly promises to defend.
5. Breeds Social Theft: Economic oppression forces desperate citizens into survival crimes, breaking down the moral fabric of the entire society.
5. Weaponizing Faith for Political Gain
The Action: Many leaders resort to visible public prayer, photo-ops with clergy, and biblical citations, yet fail to implement justice or fulfill promises once in office.
The Spiritual Impact: This creates public cynicism toward the gospel. It models a dangerous form of religious hypocrisy where faith is used merely as a campaign strategy.
