Weekly Devotional:
Scripture- John 9:41
"Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin. But since you say, 'We see,' your sin remains."
Preceding this statement to the Pharisees, Jesus had said that he had come to the world for this reason, that the blind might see and those who "see" might be found blind. Of course he is talking of spiritual sight.
It is very powerful to me that he said "because you say that you see, you remain in your sin (error). According to this, it is clear that it is a very dangerous thing to hold the attitude that we see/understand/know or believe "in the correct way". Thinking that we see blocks us from the greater clarity and corrected vision that God desperately wants to grant us. It is a prerequisite for growth to embrace the attitude that I certainly don't see everything and need to be healed in my sight more every day.
Many are afraid to embrace this because their sense of security comes from being right or understanding things correctly. Often a belief system becomes God instead of the God of the belief system. A far better security can be found in realizing our foundation in God that is bigger than being right or wrong or lacking the awareness and sight that we ultimately should be growing into. What freedom to not have to appear to God or others that we have it figured out.
PRACTICE POINT: As I observe my thinking and actions, am I afraid of being wrong? Do I have anxiety if I don't have something figured out? Do I use my system of belief as a framework for what is or is not of God in various situations and people?
Being mindful of the ways in which we claim to see provides opportunities to redirect. May we be given grace to live secure in God, embracing the fact that we all need expansion in our spiritual sight.
In short, the more that you know, the more you know that you don't know...and its ok 🙂 blessings to each 🙏
