東光院萩の寺は創建以来1200年以上の長い歴史を持ち、現在は新西国霊場第12番札所として宗旨宗派を問わず多くの方々にお詣りをされている曹洞宗別格地寺院です。天平年間(735年)行基菩薩の草創にかかり、御本尊として同菩薩自作の薬師如来の他、国重要文化財(旧国宝)降魔座釋尊、後醍醐天皇ゆかり十一面観世音菩薩、豊臣秀吉勧請道了大権現等を安置しています。秋には境内中の萩が咲き誇ることから大阪みどりの百選にも指定されています。

今年も「萩まつり・道了祭」が始まりました。珍しい二度咲きの夏萩が満開です。白萩も咲き始めています。
萩の花は満開も美しいのですが、近づくと古い花も一緒についているので、咲き始めのみずみずしい姿を好まれる方々も多いです。
最近のお寺の授与品のモチーフになっている、淀殿奉納の文箱には、白萩が描かれています。輝くような白萩の姿に、淀殿も魅了されたのではないでしょうか。
これから様々な種類の萩の花が、順番に開花を迎えます。
The "Hagi flower, Doryo Festival" has begun this year as well. The rare twice-blooming summer bush clovers are in full bloom. White bush clovers are also beginning to bloom.
Hagi flowers are beautiful in full bloom, but many people prefer to see them fresh at the beginning of blooming. This is because when they approach a hagi in full bloom, they can see that the many old flowers are attached together with the new ones.
White bush clovers are depicted on the Yodo-dono dedication letter box, which has become a motif of recent temple gifts. Yodo-dono must have been fascinated by the shining appearance of white bush clovers.
From now on, various kinds of hagi flowers will come into bloom in turn.

牡丹のあと、長く芍薬が咲いていましたが、そろそろその季節も終わりです。毎日日替わりのように、いろいろな種類の蝶が舞う季節になりました。黄色い花は禅庭花(日光黄菅)。高山植物の一種で今年も元気に咲いています。4月に芽を出した萩は1メートルを超えました。すくすくと育っています。
After the peonies, the paeonia lactifloras were in bloom for a long time, but that season is almost over. It is now the season of butterflies of various kinds, as if they change every day. The yellow flowers are zen garden flowers (Zenteika/ Nikkokisuge). The bush clovers that sprouted in April have grown to over one meter in height. They grow up quickly!

今日は降誕会、花まつりでした。萩の寺でも誕生仏をまつり、甘茶をかけてお祝いいたしました。境内は春爛漫の装いです。今日もお参りいただきまして誠に有り難うございました。
Today was the Buddha's Birthday, Flower Festival in Japan. At our temple, we also celebrated by holding a ceremony and pouring sweet tea over the Baby Buddha statue. The temple grounds are in full bloom in the spring. Thank you very much for your visit today.

先週は能登の炊き出しに参加させていただき、今週は福島、岩手、宮城を訪問させていただきました。この2週間で境内の水仙が満開になりました。萩露園をいつも静かに見つめているお地蔵様に、力と命が吹き込まれます。
Last week we participated in soup kitchens in Noto, and this week we visited Fukushima, Iwate, and Miyagi prefecture. In the past two weeks, the daffodils on our temple grounds have been in full bloom. They bring strength and life to the Jizo statue that is always quietly and compassionately gazing at the garden.

冷たい雨の中静かに咲く紅い木瓜の花。この季節いつも山門でお参りの皆様をお迎えしています。

寒い季節に花開く緋色の花は、寒い中来山して下さる皆様へエールを送っているかのようです。
Red Japanese quince flowers bloom quietly in the cold rain. They are always welcoming visitors at the temple gate during this season. The scarlet flowers that bloom in the cold season seem to send a cheer to those who come to our temple in the cold.

今年は、にぎやかに節分の行事をつとめることが出来ました。境内の中庭では、白い梅が綺麗に咲いています。
「梅花新たに発く旧年の枝」
厳しい寒さをのりこえて、節分で新しい年を迎えます。その象徴のような梅の姿は、私たちに様々な希望を与えてくれます。
This year, we were able to hold a lively Setsubun event on 3rd February. In the courtyard of our temple grounds, white Ume plum blossoms are blooming beautifully.
Many things in the world have overcome the severe cold weather to welcome the new year at Setsubun day. The ume plum blossoms, which symbolize the new year, give us various hopes.

冷たい空気の中、ずっと静かに咲き続けてきた獅子頭(シシガシラ)の花。その鮮やかな色合いに元気をもらいます。
The flowers of Shishi-gashira (the lion's head in Japanese) have been quietly blooming in the cold air for a long time. I am invigorated by their brightly colored flowers.

今年も神秘的な臘梅(ロウバイ)の花を見つけました。その名前は、花びらが蝋細工のようだからかと思っていましたが、よく見ると「むしへん」と「にくづき」、漢字の部首が違います。旧暦の12月、臘月に咲く花なので臘梅と名付けられたということです。臘月と言えば臘八(12月8日)の暁、釋尊は7日間の坐禅を経て成道されました。道元禅師に好まれた梅花の姿と合わせ感じ入ります。
This year, too, I found mysterious Rou-bai flowers in our temple. It is said that the flower was named "Rou-bai" because it blooms in the 12th month of the lunar calendar, Rou-getsu. Speaking of Rou-getsu, Buddha attained enlightenment at the dawn of Rou-hatsu (December 8),
after 7 days meditation. The name "-bai" means "plum blossom" favored by Zen Master Dogen. I'm thinking about that and feeling it.

本日は道元禅師さまの降誕会。1200年1月26日にお生まれになられました。境内に咲く珍しい寒アヤメの紫を見ながら、道元さまにゆかりの深い秋咲くリンドウを思います。そろそろ梅の花も咲き始めています。
Today is the birthday of Zen Master Dogen, who was born on January 26, 1200. While looking at the rare purple blossoms of cold irises on our temple garden, I think of the gentians that bloom in the fall, which are closely associated with Dogen. Plum blossoms favored by him
are also beginning to bloom.

午前5時46分、阪神淡路大震災から29年。今年は能登地震で被災された皆様への祈りも捧げさせていただきました。
At 5:46 a.m., 29 years have passed since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. This year we also offered prayers for the victims of the Noto earthquake.

週末は大般若祈祷会でした。600巻ある大般若経を転読いたします。萩の寺の大般若経は後西天皇が勅願奉納された大変貴重なもの。来年の皆様方の幸せと世界平和をお祈りいたしました。
We held the Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra
(the Daihannya Sutra) Prayer Ceremony last weekend. 600 scrolls of the Great Sutra were rolling-read.The Sutra of our temple is very precious because that was dedicated by Emperor Gosai. We prayed for your happiness and world peace in the coming next year.

今年も開催されました「豊中まちなかクラシック」。日本センチュリー交響楽団より、クラリネットの持丸秀一郎先生、ハープの山地梨保先生が来てくださいました。クラリネットの見事な響きも然る事ながら、珍しいバセットホルンの深く落ち着いた音色に聞き入りました。また、山地先生は2回目のご来山です。ハープは萩の寺本堂の荘厳に本当に良く似合います。繊細で美しい表現と調べを心から楽しみました。ご来山の皆様、誠にありがとうございました。
"Toyonaka Machinaka Classic" was held again this year. Mr. Shuichiro Mochimaru, a clarinetist, and Ms. Riho Yamaji, a harpist, came from the Japan Century Symphony Orchestra. We listened to the deep and calm tone of the rare basset horn as well as the splendid sound of the clarinet. This was also Yamaji's second visit to our temple. The harp really fits the solemnity of the main hall of our temple. We truly enjoyed the delicate and beautiful expression and music. We would like to thank everyone who participated this concert.
