榧寺 - かや寺Kayadera temple 浅草隅田川のほとりに500年前から続く榧寺。境内の榧の大木から、江戸の? It is said that the principal image, Amida Buddha was made in the 10th century.

天正年間より昔、隅田川のほとりの草庵から、後慶長4年(1599年)に池中山盈満院正覚寺として開山。境内にあった榧の大木が、江戸の大火事から人々を護り、江戸の人々に、榧寺と親しまれ、昭和27年に榧寺と改称。

宗　派： 浄土宗（法然上人）
開　山： 普光観智国師（徳川家康公の師・増上寺中興）晩年榧寺創建
本　尊： 阿弥陀如来三尊
守護神： 秋葉大権現
地蔵尊： 厄除け地蔵〔高村光雲作〕・飴なめ地蔵・地蔵尊お初地蔵

KAYADERA Buddhist Temple( Pure Land Dnomnation, Orignally built in 1580.) This temple, named after a 1000-year-old torreya threee.(Kaya), is known for the guardans of fire, Akiba Gongen sculpted out of the gant torreya tree. Apicture scroll detailing the history of this temple is designated as cultural assets of Taito Cty. Hokusai's painting, Taka-Toro( the banging lantern) of Kayadera, is modeled on this temple.

史　跡： 国学、狂歌の石川雅望〔都指定史跡〕、日本画の勝川春亭、久保春満
梨園〔歌舞伎〕の市川九蔵　浄瑠璃〔女義太夫〕の初代・竹本綾之助、相撲の大童山文五郎、横綱安芸海、錣山、洋画の安井曽太郎、評論の長谷川如是閑の生家、野球セリーグの鈴木竜二　等の墓がある。
