At this time, when all our eyes have been on the Paralympics, will you say a prayer with us now for Japan?!

On this last day of the Paralympics, Japan1Million are praying for: Closing Ceremony
Today the Paralympics concludes. It is our final day praying together. Thank you for praying for Japan over these 30 days of the Games. The church in Japan is grateful for you standing with them as they pray for revival in their nation.
Pray that the Closing Ceremony may honor the courage and achievements of those who have been part of the Paralympic Games.
Pray for the volunteers and staff who will be serving during the Closing Ceremony. May God renew their strength and give them grace for their work.
Pray for the Paralympian athletes who suffered loss, injury, or frustration during the Games. May they find comfort and hope to move forward, especially in the Lord.
Pray for both the Olympics and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024 and for the preparation of the churches there.

The Work of Harvest
Over the 30 days of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we have prayed for God’s work of salvation and grace across the nation of Japan. Thank you so much for your precious prayers of faith!

If we believe that God hears our prayers and that he is answering them even now for his glory, we must faithfully prepare for the work of harvest. Pray that churches and Christians will be ready to joyfully give their hearts and attention to new seekers and help lead them to Christ.

As we pray for renewal, believers may desire a deeper relationship with God, to study the Word more, or need help with patterns of sin or struggles in daily life. Pray for mature Christians and church leaders to help guide believers closer to Jesus.

We wait upon God our Savior with faith and eager expectation!

We will be celebrating and giving thanks for 30 Days of our praying together for the Olympics and Paralympics.

As the closing ceremony of the Paralympics is taking place, Christians from around the world will be gathering from around the world to thank God for our 30 days of prayer.

We’ll hear stories of the impact of our prayers and prepare for the next season of what God is doing in Japan and around the world.

And we will celebrate all God is doing in Japan.

God is igniting Japan’s “Next Generation” to pray. This is a Japanese-wide prayer initiative; gatherings in small groups to pray for revival. It’s starting small like a mustard seed. We’ll watch it grow.

Today’s Japan1Million prayers are for: After the Games
The vision of the Japanese International Sports Partnership (JiSP) was to use the Olympics and Paralympics as a catalyst for mission after the Games and to inspire and equip Christians toward outreach in Japan.

Since the Rugby World Cup in 2019, JiSP has been building Community Partnership Teams (CPTs) in prefectures across Japan to work together in reaching their prefecture for Christ. Our dream is for a CPT in all 47 of Japan's prefectures.
Give thanks that we currently have coordinators in over half of the prefectures and 14 functioning CPTs across Japan.
Pray that we will be able to build 500 city teams that are committed to reaching 2,000 people each by 2024. We're working toward a vision of seeing 10 million Christians by 2024.
Pray that the CPTs will initiate contact with churches and believers in neighboring prefectures to encourage them to start their own teams. Pray for the multiplication of CPTs across Japan.

Jesus is the Only Savior
It is said that there are 8 million gods in Japan. There are statues, festivals, shrines, and temples dedicated to specific gods. There are also the invisible gods in our hearts – gods of money, power, success, and more. There are also things we turn to, to “save” us when we’re not doing well – alcohol, TV, shopping, and more.

Let us proclaim that Jesus is the only Savior. Let’s turn from other gods and saviors, and pray this for Japan as well. Let’s lift up the name of Jesus as the only God who deserves the place of worship in our hearts and in the hearts of Japanese people, and the only Savior to turn to in times of need.

Today we are praying around the world for these things:

Sports across Japan

Interest in sports in Japan is massive. Approximately 75 percent of the population in Japan watched the Olympics. Over 70 percent of Japanese people are involved in sports in some way.

This means that the Japan International Sports Partnership has a strategic opportunity and potential to use sports to connect with tens of millions of Japanese people who have little or nothing to do with the church.

Pray that the church in Japan will realize the value of sports and use it to connect with their local communities.
Pray that JiSP will be able to inspire, train, and equip Christians to use sports strategically.
Pray that Christians in Japan will invest more in discipling and mentoring Christian athletes involved in Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Pray for Christians playing sports at all levels throughout Japan to have boldness and wisdom in sharing the gospel with their teammates.
Pray for more Christian coaches and athletes in Japan to be equipped with an influence for Christ.

Church Planting and Renewal

There are about 8,000 Protestant churches in Japan. About 1,000 of them do not have a pastor, and most churches have aging congregations.

The current number of churches equals out to about one church for every 16,000 people in Japan. It’s estimated that more than 50,000 churches are needed to truly reach every community.

There is a need for renewed worship, fellowship, and outreach in many existing churches. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s life-giving ministry. May church members seek and love God with all of their heart, soul, mind, and strength. May churches receive from God all that they ask for in Jesus’ name!
Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead church planters to specific areas in Japan that need a church. Pray for God to provide the people, vision, faith, and resources necessary for new churches.

Inclusion in Churches

Many Japanese churches are often unaware of how they can help people with disabilities. Churches don’t always have funds or resources to help welcome people with disabilities. There may not be a ramp to enter a church building and churches may not be wheelchair friendly.

Pray that Japanese churches would consider how to make church, worship, and discipleship accessible and participatory for individuals with disabilities. For example, to support those who are blind or visually impaired when they cannot see words on a screen or in a hymnal.
Pray for churches in Japan to intentionally find ways to integrate people with disabilities into sports and play.

Region of Kyushu

Kyushu is the southernmost region of Japan, including the islands of Okinawa prefecture. This region is where Christianity has its longest roots, starting with the Jesuits’ arrival in 1549, and some of its most painful history.

Fukuoka is the major city in this region. Pray for God to strengthen churches and give a vision for ministry throughout Kyushu. There is a particular need for church planting in Saga prefecture.
Natural disasters such as flooding, earthquakes, and mudslides occur in most regions of Japan. Pray for Christian centers like the Kyushu Christ Disaster Relief Center that coordinates churches and volunteers to help with relief work and donations.

Today Japan1Million are praying for:

Coaches and Support Staff

Support staff is crucial at any event, but especially at the Paralympics. Many are dedicated experts helping athletes perform at their best.

Athletes who are blind or have low vision need professionals to support them in a variety of ways, including sometimes running alongside them. The staff that works behind the scenes spends a lot time with the athletes. Athletes and coaches often trust them and open their hearts to them.

Pray for God to give the support staff wise, serving, and supportive hearts to serve athletes in this context.
Pray for those who are Christians to be ambassadors of Christ through their actions, words, and relationships.
Pray for more Christians equipped to serve as coaches and support staff in Japan and around the world.
Region of Shikoku

Shikoku is a separate smaller island of Japan, made up of four rural prefectures. Most people live in the north of the region, while the larger southern area is mountainous and sparsely populated.

Thank God for the fellowship, cooperation, and prayer between pastors and churches in this region, and pray that this continues.
Churches in rural areas, as compared to urban ones, have their own specific concerns. Churches may be aging or declining due to demographic changes. Many of them may be without pastors or in need of renewal. Pray for God’s encouragement and provision for churches in rural areas of Japan.

Daniel Dias is a Brazilian Paralympic athlete. He has been hailed as the most successful para-swimmer of all time. Daniel is a Christian, and his faith is important to him. In this video, he talks a little about himself and his motivation as a disciple and servant of Jesus - which he says is his greatest achievement without a doubt.

The encouraging Bible verse he shares is from the book of Ephesians 3:20:
'Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us'
