🆕News: On Jun. 13, the Soka Gakkai will open the exhibition "No More War! 𝘐𝘬𝘶𝘴𝘢 𝘺𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 (We must never allow war)—A Message from Okinawa" at the Soka Bunka Center in Tokyo. The exhibition runs through Sept. 13.
Okinawa was the site of the largest ground battle in Japan during World War II, in which approximately 1 in 4 residents lost their lives. In 1981, the Soka Gakkai Okinawa youth members began collecting paintings by survivors, capturing lived memories from a civilian perspective. Around 700 works were gathered and this exhibition displays 50 selected works, alongside panels on the history of the Battle of Okinawa. This exhibition has been loaned to over 200 elementary, junior high and high schools throughout Okinawa Prefecture, helping students learn about the importance of peace.
