The Temple of Dionysus
Doctrine
The Temple of Dionysus is an organization dedicated to the essential tenets of the eponymous deity, namely, engaging in the imbibement of intoxicating substances and the perpetual enjoyment of the pleasures of the human body: singing, dancing, and free love. The spirit of freedom under which this organization is formed prevents any notion of strict adherence to rul
es, however, for those who seek a guide to the essential principals, such may be found here. While it is not incumbent upon members to drink “to excess,” it is generally understood that members are to support each other in all efforts to enjoy themselves through the intoxicating effects of wine and other such spirits. In like fashion, the strict adherence to traditional marriages and exclusivistic relationships is considered antithetical to the faith: love of all to the fullest extent possible, especially between men and women, is considered righteous and good. Again, while there is no burden of necessity placed upon any members to engage in any specific acts whatsoever, the free enjoyment of physical love, both privately and publicly, to the fullest extent possible, is considered healthful and as an honor to the faith. Pursuant to the above stated targets of an abundance of INEBRIATION, FREE LOVE, FROLICKING it is hereby declared that the high holidays of this faith will be marked with a celebration of the inception of each passing season after the
Vernal equinox
Summer solstice
Autumnal equinox
Winter solstice
In order that the season be well established, these festivals shall occur roughly two weeks after the stated dates: just as good wine needs time to ferment, so do the passing seasons. Thus, the four holidays indicated shall occur within the first half of the months succeeding the seasonal inception dates: January, April, July, and October. In our year of commencement, by the Christian calendar the year 2016, these dates are January 9th, April 9th, July 9th and October 8th
Pursuant to the ongoing livelihood of the organization, members shall be encouraged to donate liberally in exchange for devotional materials including:
Tried and true recipes for beverages
Additional, experimental recipes for beverages
Games to encourage ongoing enjoyment of all festivities
Online guides to fashioning one’s very own toga
The most basic service and function of the Temple shall be the prayer of the high Templars for the faithful to enjoy themselves to their fullest capacity. Toward the encouragement of a global community, certain songs shall be taken as evocations of the spirit of the faith. While none of the original creators of these titles has given their consent to be associated with the Temple, until such time as they have spoken out against such, our semi-official soundtrack includes:
One Love, One Life (or, generally, anything by Bob Marley)
Love the One You’re With
One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer
Why Don’t We Get Drunk and Screw? Pursuant to the ongoing life and health of all members of the Temple, it is hereby strongly encouraged that all members, prior to engaging in free love, ensure that they are not at risk to endanger the health of their partners.
