After His resurrection, Jesus would spend the next 40 days appearing to some 500 people and explaining the scriptures to them about why He had to die and resurrect. The men on the road to Emmaus were two such people. They were sad and forlorn, but as it says in Luke 24, when they realized that it was Jesus speaking to them, they said “Did our hearts not burn within us?” That’s part of the hope of the resurrection! That our hearts burn within us, so that we can bring that same hope and that same fire to those who are lost and forlorn without Jesus!
