Our theme for September is “Equal Unequal.” Specifically, within our journey of Align in Promise, this theme
will focus on the story of Jacob and Esau. We know that Isaac received the word of the Lord that he would
be blessed with twin sons—two nations in Rebekah’s womb. Yet one would lead the other.
The theme “Equal Unequal” will therefore explore the difference between God’s general promises and His
specific promises. Some promises are given equally to all of us—to God’s chosen people and to everyone
who calls on the name of the Lord. But some promises are given specifically and differently.
Some people are entrusted with greater responsibilities than others. Some are given more and, therefore,
more is required of them. So throughout September, we will be asking this question: Are we able to receive
God’s promises according to the portion He has given us in our own lives?
This is what we see in the lives of Jacob and Esau. Both would become great nations, yet one would become
stronger than the other. Because of this, throughout September we will also talk a lot about identity. Are
we able to truly receive God’s promise without comparing our promise with someone else’s?
The theme “Equal Unequal” is based on Genesis chapters 25 and 27. The IFGF Global Discipleship
Department has prepared two sermon materials:
1. Embrace Our Portion: How we can receive and live out the specific promise God has given to each of us
according to our own portion.
2. Embrace the Journey: How we can truly embrace and appreciate the journey of the promise that God
has specifically given to each of our lives.
