聖餐は目に見えないイエス・キリストという方を人が体験する場です。したがって、イエスをどのような方ととらえ、どのような方として人に紹介したいと思っているかが、聖餐をどのようなものと考えるかに関係しています。また、そこには私たちが罪や救いというものをどのようにとらえているかも関わっています。閉ざされた聖餐と開かれた聖餐の考え方は、どちらか一方が正しいわけではなく、どちらも人間には説明し尽くせない神様の恵みの神秘を、限定ある仕方で表しています。

The Holy Communion is a place where people encounter the invisible Jesus Christ. Therefore, how we perceive Jesus and how we wish to introduce Him to others is closely related to how we view the Holy Communion. Furthermore, it is also connected to how we understand sin and salvation. Neither the concept of a “closed” Holy Communion nor that of an “open” Holy Communion is inherently correct; both represent, in their own limited ways, the mystery of God’s grace, which cannot be fully explained by human beings.

なぜ戦争はなくならないのか？なぜ災害が起こるのか？なぜ不正義が許されるのか？なぜ人は病気になるのか？なぜ差別は終わらないのか？世界の情勢を見ても、日本国内の社会状況を見ても、個人的な日常の中でも、神様の愛と正義を信じ続けるのは簡単ではありません。自分にできることは世界に何も変化をもたらさないのではないかと、虚しくなることもあります。でも、神様は確かに私たちを用いて、この世界にご自分の愛を届けようとされています。一人ひとりがイエス様に委ねられた人々に、神様の愛を届け続けましょう。

Why doesn’t war end? Why do disasters happen? Why is injustice accepted? Why do we get sick? Why does discrimination persist? Whether we look at the state of the world, the social situation within Japan, or our own personal lives, it’s not easy to keep believing in God’s love and justice. Sometimes we feel discouraged, wondering if what we can do will make any difference in the world at all. But God is certainly using us to bring His love to this world. Let each of us continue to share God’s love with the people entrusted to us by Jesus.

ヨハネによる福音書でイエス様が断罪される場面を読むと、当時のユダヤ人たちとローマ総督ピラトの偽善が際立っています。それは、正義や真実を追求するよりも自分の社会的地位を守ることを優先する姿勢です。イエス様は彼らにも私たちにも問いかけられています。あなたは誰を王としているのか？何が真理だと信じているのか？イエスを何者だと思うのか？これらの問いを無視したり忘れたりする時、私たちは自分の偽善に気が付きません。神様の真理は、私たちの偽善を全て見抜いた上で赦して救う愛です。

When we read the account of Jesus’ condemnation in the Gospel of John, the hypocrisy of the Jews of that time and of the Roman governor Pilate stands out clearly. It is an attitude that prioritizes the preservation of one’s social standing over the pursuit of justice and truth. Jesus poses these questions to them, and to us as well. Who do you call your king? What do you believe to be the truth? Who do you think Jesus is? When we ignore or forget these questions, we fail to recognize our own hypocrisy. God’s truth is a love that forgives and saves us, having seen through all our hypocrisy.

聖書は同性愛を罪としているという主張の根拠の一つとして、旧約聖書のソドム滅亡物語が挙げられることがあります。でも、その箇所は性犯罪について語っている可能性はありますが、同性愛については語っていません。また、その箇所には現代の倫理観では到底許されない女性蔑視の記述もあります。さらに、ソドム滅亡物語自体、旧約聖書のユダヤ民族主義を反映するものではないでしょうか？ソドムの罪とは、私たち全てが持つ、自分を神とし自分が正しいとする、罪の性質なのではないでしょうか？私たちが聖書の解釈を間違えるのも、その私たちの罪の性質によるのではないでしょうか？

The story of the destruction of S***m in the Old Testament is sometimes cited as one of the grounds for the claim that the Bible condemns homosexuality. However, while that passage may address sexual crimes, it does not specifically address homosexuality. Furthermore, the passage contains descriptions of misogyny that would be utterly unacceptable by modern ethical standards. Furthermore, might the story of S***m’s destruction itself reflect the Jewish nationalism found in the Old Testament? 「幸せ」は感覚でであり、誰にも感じられる時と感じられない時があります。一方「幸い」は人間の主観的な感覚ではなく、神様が与えてくださる事実です。それは神様が人生の同伴者となってくださることであり、神様の望まれる生き方をしている人に無条件で与えられています。それはどんなに困難な状況にあっても私たちの心に希望と平安をもたらしてくれます。

"Happy" is a feeling—something anyone may experience at times but not at others. "Blessed," on the other hand, is not a subjective human emotion but a fact bestowed by God. It signifies that God walks with us as a companion in life, and it is unconditionally granted to those who live in accordance with His will. It brings hope and peace to our hearts, no matter how difficult our circumstances may be.

神様は私たちすべてに、「神を愛し、人を愛する」生き方をしてほしいと望まれています。それが私たちにとって最も幸せで希望に満ちた生き方だからです。でも私たちは、自分を神にする傲慢さを持ち、そのために人を苦しめることを正当化する偽善者です。そして、その私たちの傲慢さと偽善がこの世界に暴力と恐怖をもたらし、「神を愛し、人を愛する」ことを難しくさせます。イエス様は、そのような私たちの過ちと弱さをすべて赦して正しく導くために、十字架で命を献げられました。イエス様という方が何を教え、何をなさった方なのか、それを自分で調べることが、神様の愛を知る第一歩です。

God desires that all of us live a life of “loving God and loving others.” This is because that is the life that brings us the greatest happiness and hope. Yet we are hypocrites who are arrogant enough to make ourselves into gods, and who use that arrogance to justify causing suffering to others. And it is our arrogance and hypocrisy that bring violence and fear into this world, making it difficult for us to “love God and love others.” Jesus gave His life on the cross to forgive all our mistakes and weaknesses and to guide us onto the right path. The first step toward knowing God’s love is to explore for yourself who Jesus was and what He taught and did.
