清水寺 寺院 ７７８年に創建以来、幾多の災害を経て今日まで大衆信仰の象徴的存在として親しまれてきた清水寺。

清水の舞台がある国宝の本堂をはじめ諸堂伽藍が立ち並び、観音霊場として多くの参拝者にお越し頂いています。

この日はお釈迦様のお誕生日です。当山では様々な草花で飾った花御堂（はなみどう）を本堂西側に設置して読経を行い、お釈迦様の像に甘茶をかけてお祝いいたします。ご参拝の皆さまも、ご一緒にお手を合わせていただければ幸いです。

On April 8, we celebrate the birth of the Buddha. A floral altar, Hana-midō, is enshrined on the west side of the Main Hall to honor this day with sacred chants and the ritual of pouring sweet tea over the infant Buddha statue. We invite you to join us in this moment of reverence. Please feel free to offer a prayer and share in this humble celebration of life.

Mizu no Hi — Water Day

「みずの日」とは、全国の「清水」と名の付く寺院が作る団体「全国清水寺ネットワーク会議」が4（し）3（みず）にあわせて4月3日に定めた記念日です。この日、当山には宗派を超えて「清水寺」の僧侶が集い、命の根源である水をたたえ、人心の浄化と自然環境、社会環境の浄化を祈願する合同法要を執り行います。
「全国清水寺ネットワーク会議」では、インドに井戸を贈るための浄財を募る活動をしています。この「みずの日」に、あらためて水について考え、水不足に苦しむ世界の人々に思いを至らす機会をもっていただければ幸いです。

“Mizu no Hi” (Water Day) is held on April 3. The date was chosen because 4/3 can be read shi-mi-zu in Japanese. “Kiyomizu” means “pure water.”
On this day, priests from Kiyomizu temples across Japan gather at our temple for a joint service. They give thanks for water—the source of life—and pray for the well-being of people and the protection of nature.
The network also raises funds to build wells in India. We hope this day encourages people to think about the importance of water and about those around the world who do not have enough of it.

清水寺には、観音さまの化身である龍が音羽の瀧に夜ごと飛来して水を飲むという伝承があります。また、奥の院南脇堂に祀られている夜叉神は、この青龍の地と御本尊を守り、人々の悪縁を断ち、良縁を結ぶ神として信仰されてきました。青龍会では、長さ18メートルの青龍を先頭に、荘厳な装束に身を包んだ会衆が地域守護と除災を祈願して境内と門前町を練り歩きます。人々は観音さまの化身を見守りながら「南無観音」と唱和して、観音さまのご利益を願います。

One of the legends of the temple says that a blue dragon (Seiryu in Japanese), an incarnation of Kannon, flies to drink from the waterfall every night. Furthermore, Yasha, originally a demon-god, is enshrined in a small shrine in the south side of Okuno-in Hall. Yasha has been worshiped as a match-making god who guards the ground of Seiryu and the principal image as well as a disruptor of evil karma. At this event, with a 18-meter long figure of the blue dragon leading the way, a wide variety of performers adorned with gorgeous costumes parade through the grounds and the temple town, praying for regional peace and expelling bad luck. Observing the incarnation of Kannon performing, the audience chant “Namu-kannon” in chorus and pray for good luck.
