Zerubbabel is the one who was like a signet ring to God. But his name shares a different story.
His name, the second half, as you may notice is from Babel, or Babylon - not Israel, not YHWH, but Babylon.
The first part means seed of.
And put together it means - seed of Babylon, born in Babylon.
Not the best name to have if you are an Isralite.
You are always remembered about your past, about the trauma that you had, about the bad moments in your life.
But God takes this man whose identity is steeped in his past exile and says - you are now like my signet ring.
You are no longer simply someone born in enemy territory, but you are one who has my authority and power on your life.
That is you today - for those who now look to Jesus who has the power of God completely and rules with his authority.
You too have that power and authority - to drive out the darkness and move into his glorious light!

the two people build houses and they actually both even hear God's word which is interesting.
but the house which doesn't fall, that person hears and does the word of God.
are we doing what we hear, what we read, what we are taught through the Scriptures?
and the only way to do it is not on our own strength, but by his power and strength.

may you live this week doing his will through his power!

Habakkuk teaches us how to deal with our daily mess that we find ourselves in in 3 steps, one step in each chapter.

1. Give your thoughts to God.
2. Remove yourself from the situation to gain proper perspective.
3. Tie your hopes in God.

i feel God is angry a lot in the OT, especially in the prophets
but it's not as if God has an anger issue
because if you are an Israelite, on the side of oppression for so long, you want a God who is angry at evil, angry at your enemies, who doesn't take evil lightly, but seriously
and Jesus Christ takes care of evil once and for all on the cross so that its power has no effect on our lives today

may you rest in that peace this week!

Amos 5:24 - צְדָקָ֖ה כְּנַ֥חַל אֵיתָֽן (tsedaqah kenahal eitan) let righteousness flow like a permanent, ever-flowing, never ending wadi - and a wadi is a stream/river that is not always flowing, only during the rainy seasons, in the dry summer months, there is no trace of the river

Amos uses this to say that righteousness of Israel is like a wadi, good on Sunday after church, but dry during the weekdays, powerful at times, but lacking any punch the other.
What he wants is for righteousness to always flow, no matter the season, no matter the situation/circumstances in our lives.

How do you measure faith?
By the number of people at church?
By the number of small groups you do?
By the amount of time you read the Bible everyday?
By the number of years you've been a Christian?

Micah says there are 3 things in 6:8 -
do justice
love mercy
and walk humbly before our God.

How well we do these things will determine how close we are to God.
How are you helping those in need?
How are putting others above yourself?
And how are we putting God first in all we do?

May we be able to live this way this week!
Have a blessed week!
