I was invited to the temple of my grandmother's family, who passed away 60 years ago, and traveled to Hashima to attend the wedding of the son of the current chief priest.
It had been about 30 years since I last visited.
I felt a mixture of wonder and deep emotion at the fact that I still have a connection with my grandmother's family, even though I never met them.

May 10th
The temple guardian "Konpira Daigongen Annual Festival" will be solemnly held.
This year, different varieties of azaleas bloomed together for the first time.
It's a bit worrying considering recent climate change...

Display of large Nehan (Death of Buddha) painting for 3 days
Periodic explanations of the Nehan painting starting from 10:00 a.m. each day
Death of Buddha memorial service on March 10 at 11:00
Gagaku dedication (Mie Gagaku-kai) on March 10 at 10:30
Dedicatory performance (Kobe High School Brass Band) on March 9; time to be determined

Other events:
Viewing of Amida Nyorai statue (Mie Prefectural Cultural Property)
Honda Family Tea Room “Zabotei” (Mie Prefectural Cultural Property) will be open to the public
Exhibition of temple treasures (including letters from emperors and shoguns)
Prayers to ward off evil spirits, memorial services for dead ancestors and aborted/miscarried children, etc.
Explanations of Illustrated Hell scrolls (inside the temple precincts)

On July 7, for the first time in four years since the outbreak of the coronavirus, our “Osegaki-e” was held with a lecture given by a visiting priest. This time the talk was by a high-ranking priest of the Tofukuji sect, Inaba Ryudo, who gave an easy to understand and enjoyable explanation of Tofukuji temple in Kyoto and how we should live our lives. His sermon was followed by a memorial service attended by priests from 18 Rinzai Zen temples, and although the number was fewer than previous years, approximately 70 parishioners came to make incense and water offerings. Recently an elementary school in the neighborhood was closed due to an outbreak of corona, so please take care of yourselves as the coronovirus is still unpredictable.

The summer high school baseball season will start soon. Recently team members from the Kanbe High School Baseball Club came to the temple to participate in their annual pre-tournament zazen. You can only feel the effects of zazen on your own. Although it was only a short period, I hope each team member will be able to gain a little from seeing how concentration can increase, little by little. I won’t be able to attend the first match on July 9 because of temple obligations, but I will be rooting for them.《Ｐ》

"Reclining Buddha Festival" 　March 15, 2023
I could hardly go out and take pictures during the meeting, but I am glad that I was able to meet many worshipers and some of my classmates. We would also like to thank the Mie Gagakukai, the Kobe High School Brass Band Club, and the street vendors for their cooperation in disposing of the garbage.
On March 15th, the Nirvana painting was taken down, placed in its box, and returned to the temple's storehouse.　〈 P 〉
