Four voussoirs of the podium vault were badly damaged and threatened to collapse along with the floor of the cella. They were not just simple voussoirs: in late 6th century the cella became the residence of a local lord, who controlled a vast craftsmanship estate that had occupied the upper terrace of the sanctuary. To facilitate the transport of goods through the premises of the building, the vault was cut to open a trapdoor with a huge cap. Our restoration had to respect the Byzantine modification that is now legible in the intrados of the vault.

Hippodrome⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A site for races and sports, the Hippodrome of Jerash could once hold 15,000 spectators! Nowadays it may have reduced in size but locals of Jerash keep the essence of the sport alive with almost daily spectacles! RACE is a group of Jordanian reenactors who perform both as Roman Legionnaires and Gladiators, performing races as well as Roman military training.
