𝑭𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒕. 𝑨𝒍𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒔 𝑪𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒉 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒕. 𝑨𝒍𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒔, 𝑹𝒐𝒎𝒆
The Feast of St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, Founder of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists), was solemnly celebrated at the Church of St. Alphonsus on 1 August 2026 at 6:30 p.m. The confreres of the community were joined by numerous faithful who gathered to give thanks to God for the life, witness, and enduring legacy of this great saint of the Church. The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Fr. Nicolas Ayuba, C.Ss.R., General Consultor, who also preached the Triduum in preparation for the feast. Concelebrating with him were Fr. François Stanula, C.Ss.R., Vicar General, Fr. Gerardo Hernández, C.Ss.R., General Consultor, and the confreres of the community.
In his homily, Fr. Ayuba reflected on the life and mission of St. Alphonsus, highlighting his unwavering commitment to proclaiming the Gospel to the poor and the most abandoned. A gifted theologian, moralist, bishop, missionary, and founder, St. Alphonsus dedicated his life to making God's mercy known to all. His teachings on moral theology emphasized compassion, conscience, and the loving mercy of God, earning him the title Doctor of the Church.
The festive gathering concluded with prayers seeking the intercession of St. Alphonsus for the Congregation, the Church, and all those who strive to live the Gospel with zeal and generosity. Inspired by his example, the faithful were encouraged to renew their commitment to Christ and to become witnesses of God's abundant redemption in today's world.

On the feast of St Alphonsus, we celebrate a great servant of the Church whose life was shaped by compassion, the key mark of Jesus the Good Shepherd. Moved by the needs of the poor and abandoned, he responded through concrete action—founding the Congregation, preaching simply, forming others for mission, and later as bishop, serving the suffering and giving generously to those in need. His life shows that true leadership flows from a compassionate heart that seeks and serves the least, following the example of Christ.

On the third day of the triduum, we reflect on Jesus who humbled himself in service and gave his life for others, and on how St Alphonsus embodied these same virtues. Rooted in deep humility before God and simplicity toward others, he lived not for honour or power but for the Gospel and the care of the poor and abandoned. His entire life was marked by selfless dedication, offering his talents and energy for the mission of the Church and the Congregation without seeking personal gain. His example reminds us that true servant leadership is grounded in humility before God and expressed in generous, selfless service to others.

First Day of the Triduum in honor of St Alphonsus
The Triduum in preparation for the Feast of St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori commenced with a solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 6:30 p.m. in the Church of St. Alphonsus. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr. Nicolas Ayuba, CSsR, General Consultor, and concelebrated by the confreres of the community. A large gathering of the faithful joined the Redemptorist community in prayer, marking the beginning of three days of spiritual preparation to honour the Founder of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer.
The celebration concluded with a special prayer seeking the intercession of St. Alphonsus for the Church, the Redemptorist Congregation, and all those gathered to celebrate his feast. The atmosphere of prayer and devotion set a fitting tone for the days of preparation leading to the feast day on 1 August.

At the same time, he worked to heal divisions, restore trust, and build unity through patience, dialogue, and charity, never avoiding conflict but addressing it with truth and compassion. His life shows that true servant leadership both lifts others up and becomes an instrument of reconciliation and communion in Christ.
