We Are A Mission

Vox populi, vox Dei means “the voice of the people is the voice of God.” In the early Church, before a formal canonization process existed, saints were first recognized by the faithful themselves. Such is the case for Fr. Peter Sticco SAC, who was configured in a special way to be the head & shepherd of his people in New Jersey, New York, & the missions.

FatherPeter.com is a testament to his life created by the youth that he championed, and who he constantly encouraged to respond to God’s greatness.

The Police Departments of Fairview North Bergen, Cliffside, Fort Lee, Little Ferry, Port Authority, & the NYPD led the funeral procession of Fr. Peter from New Jersey to Long Island in sub-freezing temperatures. It was a stunning memorial of Fr. Peter's permanent presence in our activities, in our midst, & on our behalf. 🙏👮‍♂️

"I don't know how I got up there, but he looked at me & said, 'you will be a great missionary one day.'" St. Pope Paul VI, recognized as a prophetic Pope, must have also sensed the talent & willpower of Fr. Peter, & the supernatural destiny to which he was bound.

The Sorrowful Mysteries — One of my life’s most painful losses.

Fr. Peter Sticco SAC funded We Are A Mission since it was but a seed of a vocational calling. Over 7 years, it grew in its collaboration with the Vatican, and I shared our initiatives when I spoke with Pope Francis.

By nature of this work, I was asked to present the Offertory to Pope Leo for the Jubilee Mass of the Missions and Migrants. It was the proudest I had been after the toughest of years, in which it all seemed impossible. I questioned whether I was strong enough to fulfill my vocation, but Fr. Peter told me “do not stop.”

During the Offertory I felt that for the first time I could give to Fr. Peter just a part of what he gave to me, that his investment and belief in me were worth it. We did it.

God works in mysterious ways. He gives and He takes away, all in His perfect time and in accordance with His perfect plan. I believe that some deaths pierce more than others, because we realize what we knew to be true all along — we were in the presence of a Saint.

Thank you, Fr. Peter, for giving We Are A Mission the wings to fly. Now it's on yours that it continues its flight. May you who championed the youth and the missions, New Jersey and New York, rest in God's mighty & eternal peace.

🇻🇦 "Brothers and sisters, today a new missionary age opens up in the history of the Church!” (Pope Leo XIV)

And “this precious service”, he continued during his homily for the Jubilee Mass of Missions and Migrants, “involves each one of us, within the limits of our own means. As Pope Francis affirmed, this is the time for all of us to let ourselves be ‘permanently in a state of mission’.”

Soon after his words, We Are A Mission was then blessed to present the Offertory Gifts to the Holy Father.

🇻🇦🇬🇧 Ut Unum Sint! That they may all be one! And this "call for Christian unity," professed St. Pope John Paul II, "made by the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council with such impassioned commitment is finding an ever greater echo in the hearts of believers.”

For the first time since the Reformation, Pope Leo XIV and King Charles III became the first Holy Father and British Monarch to pray publicly together.

❤️‍🔥 “And because the Church is missionary,” shared His Excellency, “it’s natural that mission also becomes an essential part of every Christian’s identity.”

Msgr. Taduesz Wojda SAC, the Archbishop of Gdansk, Poland, and President of the Polish Episcopal Conference, opened We Are A Mission’s second session of it’s webinar series on Pope Francis’ World Mission Sunday Message. The Series, walking together with the , aims to give life to the Holy Father’s missionary dream, through the spiritual impulse of St. Vincent Pallotti and Pope Leo XIV.
