We share a new issue of News from the Grassroots.
This edition features an article on the presence of the Claretian Missionaries among the Mapuche people in southern Argentina. The text is written by Claudia Huircan, a Mapuche woman, as a gesture of gratitude for more than five decades of shared mission and commitment to the defense of land, water, and life.
From the “end of the world,” this testimony reminds us of a Church that walks alongside peoples, cares for our Common Home, and commits itself to life in abundance for all.

[EN] More than 150,000 people have died in a bloody civil war that is on the verge of becoming genocide. Two opposing armies have forced millions of people to leave everything behind in order to survive. It is the biggest humanitarian crisis on the planet. The killings have been so horrific that the blood-stained streets could be seen from space.

[SP] Más de 150 000 personas han mu**to en una sanguinaria guerra civil que va camino de convertirse en un genocidio. Dos ejércitos enfrentados han forzado a millones de personas a dejarlo todo atrás para sobrevivir. Es la mayor crisis humanitaria del planeta. Las matanzas han sido tan atroces que desde el espacio se veían las calles ensangrentadas.

🌍 SOMI ACLA Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya
The SOMI ACLA Assembly has taken place in Nairobi over the past days, bringing together Claretians from 11 African organisms along with the General SOMI Team, which included the JPIC Secretary as part of the coordinating group.
Participants expressed deep appreciation for the meeting, describing it as “very engaging and enlightening”.” Many highlighted how relevant and inspiring the themes were for their future mission: “They have challenged me a lot when I think of the mission awaiting me.”
The importance of collaboration also stood out: “I find the concept of networking very crucial in our vocation,” as well as the participatory approach aimed at strengthening African structures: “Really appreciated the participatory method and the empowerment of African structures approach.”
We express our sincere gratitude to all participants. 🌱

🌍 Asamblea de SOMI ACLA en Nairobi, Kenia
Durante estos días se ha celebrado en Nairobi la asamblea de SOMI ACLA, un espacio de encuentro, discernimiento y proyección misionera que ha reunido a claretianos de 11 organismos de África, junto con el Equipo General de SOMI, del cual forma parte el secretario general de JPIC.
La experiencia ha sido profundamente valorada por los participantes, quienes destacaron su carácter “muy participativo y esclarecedor”, y la relevancia de los temas abordados para la misión futura: “me han desafiado mucho cuando pienso en la misión que me espera”.
También se subrayó la importancia del trabajo en red: “Encuentro el concepto de Networking muy crucial para nuestra vocación”, así como el enfoque de fortalecimiento de las estructuras africanas: “Realmente aprecié el método participativo y la apuesta por empoderar las estructuras africanas”.
Agradecemos de corazón la dedicación y la participación activa de todos. 🌱

[EN] A new U.N. report highlights one of the most tragic realities: Every 10 minutes, a woman is killed somewhere in the world. Over the past year, approximately 50,000 women were victims of femicide, 60% of whom were killed by partners or relatives. On average, 137 women are murdered each day.

[SP] Un nuevo informe de la ONU destaca una de las realidades más trágicas: cada 10 minutos, una mujer es asesinada en algún lugar del mundo. Durante el último año, aproximadamente 50 000 mujeres fueron víctimas de feminicidio, el 60 % de las cuales fueron asesinadas por sus parejas o familiares. 🕊️ Claretians for Peace in Gaza and the Recognition of the Palestinian State 🇵🇸
Five Claretian Missionaries from the General Curia Community in Rome took part on October 4th in the massive demonstration for peace in Gaza and in support of the recognition of the Palestinian State.
More than one million people gathered in a peaceful and family-friendly atmosphere, where many parents walked alongside their children, expressing together a deep longing for justice and reconciliation.
United with the cry of so many, we reaffirm our commitment to peace, dialogue, and the dignity of all peoples.

Cinco misioneros claretianos de la Comunidad Curia de Roma participaron el pasado 4 de octubre en la multitudinaria manifestación por la paz en Gaza y en apoyo al reconocimiento del Estado Palestino.
Más de un millón de personas se reunieron en un ambiente pacífico y familiar, donde muchos padres caminaban junto a sus hijos, expresando juntos el deseo profundo de justicia y reconciliación.

[EG]PAPA LEO XIV: “CARING FOR CREATION REQUIRES BOLD LAWS”
From October 1–3, Castel Gandolfo hosts the global conference “Raising Hope for Climate Justice”, organized by the Laudato Si’ Movement and the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
Over 1,000 people from around the world — including diverse religions, Christian denominations, and state representatives such as Brazil’s Environment Minister Marina Silva — took part in the opening day.
The highlight came with Pope Leo XIV’s call to action: urging Christians everywhere to help transform national laws to counter climate injustice and move from words to concrete action.

Del 1 al 3 de octubre, Castel Gandolfo acoge la conferencia mundial “Raising Hope for Climate Justice”, organizada por el Movimiento Laudato Si’ y el Dicasterio para el Desarrollo Humano Integral.
Más de 1.000 personas de todo el mundo —incluyendo diversas religiones, denominaciones cristianas y representantes estatales como la ministra de Medio Ambiente de Brasil, Marina Silva— participaron en la jornada inaugural.
