First Gathering of the Precious Blood Family
The first gathering of the CPPS Family, entitled "Towards an experience of the spirituality of the Most Precious Blood," was held on April 18 and 19 at the Major Seminary of Cáceres (Spain). The goal was to share the spirituality of the Precious Blood, so that lay people may know that they are saved not at the price of gold or silver, "but by the precious blood of Christ" (1 Peter 1:19), and to form a "family" that deepens its life in this spirituality.
27 people participated, including lay people, Missionaries of the Precious Blood, and Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ, from various communities in Spain and Portugal.
Three topics were developed: the first focused on the witness of conversion of life and unity in charity; the second addressed the challenges of the mission in current times and the desire to have "a thousand languages" to proclaim the Gospel; the third focused on community life, mission, and spirituality, drawing from the teachings of St. Gaspar del Buffalo and St. Mary de Matias.
It was also an opportunity to develop an experience of community life, a pillar of the way of life of the Missionaries and Adorers, which enriches those who share this way of life, in prayer, in the Eucharist, at the meal table, and in moments of fellowship.
The 2nd Meeting is already being planned!

Christ was crucified for us (Fr. Paulino CPPS Reflections, Iberian Province)
When we contemplate Christ on the cross, we must ask ourselves, "Why?"
If we read the letters of Saint Paul, we find some clues to the answer:
In Romans: Jesus died on the cross entirely of his own free will, and he did it so that humanity would cease to be "carnal" and become "spiritual."
In Galatians and Corinthians: Jesus died to give us "life" and to reconcile humanity with God, so that we might be reconciled with one another. He also affirms in Galatians that he chose to die to deliver us from sin and make us children of God.
In general terms, the letters of Saint Paul state that Jesus died on the cross to reveal the love of God to us, for being estranged from Him through original sin, He sent us His Son so that we might be brought closer and reconciled.
In the Gospel of John, we can also find another answer to the question, "Why did Christ die on the cross?": because of the great love He has for the Father and the great love He has for us. That is why it is the greatest act of love: giving one's life for others.
For this reconciliation between God and humanity, a small gesture would have sufficed for our redemption, but He accepted the most ignominious death, like that of the death of criminals and of the death of the marginalized in order to:
• Show us how much God loves us
• Show us how important we are to Him
• Tell us that salvation is achieved through humility and perseverance in trials, by being faithful and obedient to God's will
• Also, show that it is a "free" act, because He did not die on the cross to gain something, but simply and plainly out of selfless love.
We cannot remain passive, as mere spectators, before the spectacle of the cross; we must do something. What? To be united with Him, to die with Him, and then to rise with Him.
But to die to what? To all that is carnal: selfishness, envy, revenge, lack of solidarity, criticism, backstabbing, and everything that bothers or harms others, in order to rise to what is spiritual: to the love of God and neighbor, as ourselves.
What did Christ commit to dying on the cross:
1- To reconcile ourselves with God, that is, we must rely on God in all aspects of our lives: at work, in leisure, in happiness, and also when we have problems or difficulties, illnesses, or death.
2- To learn to live as children of God and to treat everyone as children of God, and not to marginalize or single anyone out because of political, religious, or social ideologies, for we are all His children, with the same dignity and status.
3- To live according to the Father's will and place ourselves in His hands, as Christ did on the cross.
4. To live a simple life, without believing I am worth more than others, without pretending to be something I am not or possessing something I am not, and without looking down on others because they are not like me.
5. Do not run away from God when pain, suffering, or any setback visit us, but rather "be" like the Virgin Mary at the foot of the cross, who "stood there in silence."
6. Offer what we are and have to others freely, without expecting anything in return, showing solidarity with everyone, with those who suffer and with those who rejoice.
7. Be people of peace and peacemakers, and do not go through life igniting violence, tension, and war.
The death of Christ on the cross calls us to cleanse the world of its errors so that evil may be transformed into good; it also engages us with the Church, our communities, and our families so that they may be more evangelical and more missionary, and thus be witnesses to God's love for all.
Fr. Paulino CPPS.

THE BLOOD OF LIFE IS CALLING YOU!

For St. Gaspar del Bufalo, the voice of the blood of Christ was too strong to ignore. Each of us has been created for this time and place in history with our unique gifts and talents to help those who are lost or abandoned to hear in their hearts the call of the blood of Jesus saying, “I love you, I have called you by name, and you are mine.”

Fr. Angelo Anthony has prepared a series of reflections for this Holy Week on the seven blood sheddings of Christ as a guide to help us hear and respond to the call of the blood of Jesus. Download your free copy at: https://tinyurl.com/2mux977c

Iberian Province Reflection for the Feast of Saint Joseph

My name is Joseph.
Saint Joseph, a saint of obedient silence, did not preach, did not write books, nor did he leave extraordinary speeches.

He didn’t want to become the protagonist, so he listened to God and acted. Today, in a world full of digital noise, the invitation is to listen more and discuss less. Following his example, we must be willing to obey God, without any negotiation between his will and ours (conversion), to be Christians and missionaries capable of sanctifying what is common to us (work).

May our penance involve fulfilling, doing well, with love for our daily duties. In a context of persecution, of the law of force, Saint Joseph protected the Holy Family without violence, courageously.

We are called to protect our charism, our faith, our family, the vulnerable with the same serenity. We do not need to have all the answers beforehand, but rather the confidence. Let our holiness grow in the hidden, in everyday life, in humility.

Saint Joseph, pray for us, and for all "Josephs"!

Award to former Amazon Region Bishop Mgr. Kräutler

The Herbert Haag Prize 2026 was awarded on Sunday in St. Luke's Church in Lucerne. The prize, endowed with 10,000 Swiss francs each, went to the retired Amazon Bishop Erwin Kräutler and the Hungarian theologian Rita Perintfalvi.

Odilo Noti, President of the Herbert Haag Foundation, emphasized in his address that both laureates, despite their different focuses, are united by their "insistence on human dignity and equality, on human rights and democracy."

Honoring Erwin Kräutler's Life's Work
86-year-old Bishop Erwin Kräutler, a native of Vorarlberg, was honored for his decades of commitment to Brazil. Kräutler, who has been active in the Amazon region since the 1960s, was Bishop of the Diocese of Xingu and President of the Indian Missionary Council (CIMI). In its statement of reasons, the foundation highlighted not only his commitment to the rights of indigenous peoples and environmental protection, but also his work against sexual abuse and child prostitution.

In her laudatory speech, Ute Leimgruber referred to the "common thread of the Gospel" in Kräutler's work, which inextricably links love of God and love of neighbor. Kräutler himself used the award ceremony to call for structural reforms in the Church. Given the shortage of priests in the vast diocese in the Amazon, he asked: "Why on earth is it not possible to ordain parishioners who live in these regions and some of whom already hold leadership positions, so that the Eucharist can be celebrated everywhere?" He also urged the protection of the rainforest, as its continued existence has repercussions for the entire planet.

The 52-year-old theologian Rita Perintfalvi, who teaches in Budapest, was honored for her commitment to combating right-wing populism and religious fundamentalism, and for gender equality. In her laudatory speech, Irmgard Fischer pointed out that Perintfalvi is subjected to massive hostility and existential threats.

Background of the Foundation
Founded in 1985 by the Swiss theologian Herbert Haag, the foundation advocates for freedom, solidarity, and democracy both within and outside the Church. Among those offering congratulations in Lucerne was a delegation from the Diocese of Feldkirch, led by Bishop Benno Elbs.

Iberian Province Health Mission in Guinea-Bissau

The C.PP.S. community of Bissaquel (Guinea-Bissau) has begun expansion work on its health post.
The initial project was officially inaugurated in 2015 and received support from the NGO Copa Mater, the Gaspar del Bufalo Foundation, several parishes, and private individuals. For some time, it operated with volunteer doctors and nurses. In 2017, an employment contract was signed with a doctor and a nurse, and the facility began operating on a regular basis.
However, the community is growing, making it necessary to improve the space with a clinical analysis laboratory (already in operation) to provide more effective care. The building (picture) has now become too small to meet the community's health needs, and so on March 14, expansion work got underway.
The new infrastructure is expected to serve a community of more than 5,000 people.
The project has the financial support of the Pontifical Mission Societies (a Church organization that reports directly to the Pope) and aims to increase the center's care capacity, as it is currently the only health facility available to the community.
In statements to Radio Sol Mansi in Bissau, the various parties involved highlighted the importance of this project for people's health: for Missionary of the Precious Blood Fr. Lima da Silva, "with the expansion, the health center will be able to offer better conditions to treat virtually all of the most common conditions faced by the local population"; according to the head of the Safim health area, Lurdes da Costa, "the new health space will not only improve the quality of care, but also allow us to recover data and strengthen patient follow-up"; finally, community leader Paulino Imbali Djú assured that "the community is committed to protecting the space" and called for the active involvement of local residents.
