P.G. Wodehouse, if I remember right, was a prisoner of war of the Germans, and during that time he did some broadcasts for the Germans without thinking of their implications. Later, after all the troubles he had to face on this account after his release, he was asked whether he hated Germans. His reply is worth remembering: "I never hate in the plural."

100 anni fa, il 21 luglio 1921, don Paul Albera, l'allora Rettor Maggiore dei Salesiani, accogliendo la ripetuta richiesta della Propaganda Fidei, accettò la missione dell'Assam ribadendo le parole di San Pietro a Cristo: “Alle tue parole getterò la rete” (Luca 5,5). Fu l'inizio di un capitolo glorioso delle missioni salesiane, ricco di avventure missionarie e di realizzazioni che meritano di essere scritte in lettere d'oro. Fedeli alle parole profetiche del Rettor Maggiore, i suoi figli missionari affrontarono innumerevoli ostacoli e pericoli per "lanciarsi nel profondo".

Attualmente ci sono tre Province nel Nord Est: Guwahati (1959), Dimapur (1981) e Shillong (2012): tutte ugualmente missionarie. Prima ispettoria è stato Calcutta (1926).

100 years ago, on 21 July 1921, Fr Paul Albera, the then Rector Major of the Salesians, accepting the repeated request of the Propaganda Fide, accepted the mission of Assam reiterating the words of St. Peter to Christ: "At your words I will cast the nets " (Luke 5,5). It was the beginning of a glorious chapter of the Salesian missions, full of missionary adventures and achievements that deserve to be written in golden letters. Faithful to the prophetic words of the Rector Major, his missionaries faced innumerable obstacles and dangers in order to "launch out into the deep".

There are currently three Provinces in the North East: Guwahati (1959), Dimapur (1981) and Shillong (2012): all equally missionary. The first province was Calcutta (1926).
