The Casa Balthasar is an international house of Christian formation and vocational discernment for young men and women, located in Rome (Italy). Named after the Swiss theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar (1905-1988), it was founded in 1990 by the Association Lubac-Balthasar-Speyr, under the patronage of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, future pope Benedict XVI.
***
Following the precepts of St. Ignatius o
f Loyola, the Casa Balthasar helps young men and women who are searching for God’s will in their lives, initiating them in the practice of discernment and contemplative prayer, as well as a direct encounter with the Word of God.
***
To further these ends, the Casa Balthasar welcomes young men as stable residents of the house. But the house is also open to others, both male and female, who for a more limited time would like to experience the “Spiritual Exercises” of St. Ignatius, as well as to take part in the spiritual formation program, so as to better understand their Christian mission in the world.
***
Founded there in 1992, the Balthasar Academy offerts to the residents and external students a Christian, humanistic formation in the light of the Gospel, according to the spirit of Hans Urs von Balthasar, Adrienne von Speyr and Henri de Lubac.
***
The house proposes to young people looking for the will of God in their lives to make a personally guided retreat following the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.
