La mia esperienza nel grande Draco Audax, un gruppo di persone unite dall' amicizia e dalla passione per la storia. Un' esperienza unica che mi ha arricchito come persona e che dura da 16 anni.

Oggi postiamo un' immagine molto interessante, non tanto nel suo tema generale "La caccia", ma per un particolare che ritrae non molto usuale nelle rappresentazioni venatorie. Il cane in primo piano azzanna l' orecchio del cinghiale, questa operazione molto pericolosa permetteva di rallentare/fermare l' animale e di facilitare l' uccisione da parte del cacciatore. L' azzannare l' orecchio era un' operazione che veniva insegna al cane fin da quando era cucciolo e serviva non solo per la caccia, ma anche nella vita di tutti i giorni per la gestione degli armenti. Fino a metà del secolo scorso non era raro trovare nelle insegne delle macellerie raffigurate delle teste di cane chiaro segno di un rapporto di collaborazione tra uomo e animale.

Si ritorna a studiare.......il Draco Audax si cimenterà in una nuova sfida, totalmente inedita per noi e particolarmente stimolante.
Ci risentiamo tra qualche tempo sperando di offrire a tutti nuovi spunti di approfondimento.

LAST STAND ON THE ADIGE
The savage final act to the battle of Castagnaro sees the remaining Veronese foot being cut down by the Paduan infantry, their commander Francesco Novello da Carrara in the foreground. In the background, Veronese militiamen attempt to flee the carnage by climbing the levee, many of them meeting their end in the waters of the River Adige.

HAWKWOOD TURNS THE TIDE

As the bulk of his contingent hits the flank of the Veronese left, Sir John Hawkwood leads a small mounted unit against the Della Scala banners, pulling the Veronese standard bearer Francesco Visconti from his saddle. Coming up in Hawkwood’s support is one of his captains, John Coe, alongside Hawkwood’s standard-bearer.

Iniziamo con un po' di arte legata alla storia - prima tavola

The Battle of Castagnaro, 1387 – one of the best known Italian medieval battles, in which renowned (or infamous, depending on your point of view) mercenary captain, Sir John Hawkwood, led the Paduan army to a stunning victory against their Veronese adversaries.

Here, in the first of three paintings I created for the new Osprey book ‘Castagnaro 1387’, the Paduan line starts to crack in the face of the ferocious Veronese assault, led by Ostasio de Polenta, resplendent in his crested great helm. At the front of the Paduan defense is Francesco Novello da Carrara, a member of one of the most powerful Italian families.
