The Gandini Chapel was built in 1723 and entirely decorated on the inside by American conceptual artist Jack Sal in 1986.

Jesus is laid in the tomb.

Nearby Calvary there was a tomb that belonged to Joseph of Arimathea. With Joseph's consent, Jesus's body is laid in the tomb after His Deposition from the Cross, hurriedly, so that the ceremony might end before the Easter festivity that was to begin at sunset.

Jesus is taken down from the Cross and given to His mother, who cries for Him and holds Him tight to her breast.

Jesus dies on the Cross.

this is the highest moment of the Via Crucis: here is the Son of Man who dies on the Cross for all of humanity, to redeem the sins of the world with His sacrifice.

Jesus is nailed to the Cross.

The raw reality of the Crucifixion is accomplished. Part of it is a terrible tension that penetrates the hands, the feet, and all the bones: Jesus is nailed to the beams of the Cross, awaiting His annihilation.

Jesus is stripped of his garments.

On Golgotha, Jesus's clothes are taken away. His naked body accomplishes the will of the Son and of the Father with every wound, treated as an object of torture, harboring within Himself the pain of violated humanity.

Jesus falls for the third time.

Jesus falls yet again, for the third time, under the weight of the Cross, as further evidence of His proximate end. He lies in the dust of the road under the Cross, next to the feet of inimical folk who do not spare him humiliations and abuse.

Jesus consoles the women of Jerusalem

Jesus tells the women of Jerusalem who cry upon seeing Him: “Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.”

7th STATION
Jesus falls for the second time

Jesus of Nazareth falls for the second time under the weight of the Cross and continues to be subjected to insults and mockery. And He accepts it all, so that prophecy be fulfilled. He falls, therefore, exhausted as a result of the effort and pain.

The altar is of the block sort, comprised of a marble base with an antependium made out of geometrically-shaped pieces of marble of various colors; on the sides are two stone portals, one of which serves as a passageway and the other that functions as a confessional.

Being a woman, Veronica didn't carry Christ's Cross physically but alleviated His suffering in the only way she could and her heart told her to do: by drying Jesus's face covered in blood.
