TOPIC
MAINTAINING HARMONIOUS MARITAL UNION
TEXT:
Ephesians 5: 21-28.
KEY VERSE
"Submit to one another out of reference for Christ" (Eph. 5:21).
MESSAGE:
Margrethe Alexandrine, who became queen of Denmark in 1975 and was married to Prince Hendrik was quoted as saying, "Ever since I was a little girl, I have believed that even though I must take first place, it would be possible for me to take second place in marriage." What a wise statement! Only in an official position can a woman take hrst place, domestically and matrimonially she should not.
Marital conflict has been observed as a product of a clash of egos.
"His view point versus her view point". If they happen to be the same, fine; if not, which is often the case, conflict results.
Sometimes, the wife's perspective of being a loving husband implies granting the wife's desires and the husband retorts that being a submissive wife means compliance with the husband's decisions. The wife decries her husband's unloving disposition while the husband laments his wife's lack of submission and what follows next can easily be imagined.
Meanwhile, submission of a woman to her husband should not present a picture of a "slave-master" relationship. A wife is not her husband's house help. Submission to him is what she graciously chose to do in reverence to the Lord who set the rule. When she does this, naturally, her husband reciprocates by gratefully granting her desires. Like the law of sowing and reaping, when she sows submission she reaps love. It is worth noting that seed produces fruit and fruit is bigger than seed. So, she gets more than she gives. When a woman submits to her husband, reveres and serves him, she becomes truly beautiful in his eyes, a priceless jewel, the glory of femininity, his queen!
Controlling Thought:
Marital conflict is a product of a clash of egos between the husband and wife. Check your ego!
Prayer:
Father, help me to play down my ego and embrace submission/love for a harmonious matrimonial home.
