Hazrat Umme (س) binte Ali(ع) Mubarak

A strange narration in Bihar al-Anwar tells a different story…
📚 Bihar al-Anwar, Allama Majlisi, Vol. 42, p. 88, hadith 16

*1. The question
The narrator opens by asking whether Umar ibn al-Khattab actually married Umm Kulthum, the daughter of Imam Ali (referred to as Amir al-Mu’minin).

*2. Ali’s(ع) refusal
According to the narration attributed to Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq, when Umar proposed to marry Umm Kulthum, Imam Ali refused.

*3. Umar’s threat
Umar then allegedly threatened Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib — Ali’s uncle — saying that if Aliع didn’t agree, Umar would strip Abbas of his guardianship over the Zamzam well at the Kaaba.

*4. Ali’s(ع) alternative solution
To protect his daughter and avoid the pressure, Imam Ali brought a Jewish jinn named _Sahiquh bint Jaririyah_ from Najran. The jinn took on the form and appearance of Umm Kulthum.

*5. The marriage
It was this jinn, in the form of Umm Kulthum, who married Umar — not the real Umm Kulthum bint Ali(س).

*6. Umar’s suspicion and death
After some time, Umar became suspicious and accused the Banu Hashim of using sorcery. The narration then states that Umar was eventually assassinated by Hazrat Abu Lu’lu’a.(ر)

*7. The revelation*
After Umar’s death, the jinn returned to Najran. At that point, Imam Ali revealed the real Umm Kulthum to the people.

In other words, the statement says that offering the reward (thawab) of good deeds to Abu Lulu is permissible.
