“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
This verse teaches parents
It's all about guiding children with wisdom, godly values, character, and truth while they are young. The idea is not only teaching where they should live physically, but helping them learn the right path to live—their values, faith, choices, respect, and relationship with God.
Parents teach children by:
love and discipline with wisdom
Teaching prayer and dependence on God
Living as an example, not only giving instructions

parents that raising children is more than providing food, education, and daily needs. Parenting is a God-given responsibility to shape the heart, character, faith, and direction of a child’s life.
Children must be taught while they are young because early years build foundations for the future. Parents should guide children with wisdom, truth, prayer, and godly values. The goal is not only to raise successful children but to raise children who know God, walk in integrity, and become a blessing to others.
Parents teach children by:
• Showing love together with wise discipline
Love gives security and discipline gives direction. Correction should come from care and teaching, not from anger.
• Teaching prayer and dependence on God
Help children understand they can speak with God in every season—joy, fear, decisions, and challenges.
• Living as an example
Children often follow what parents practice more than what parents say. Let your life teach faith, forgiveness, humility, and honesty.
• Teaching honesty, kindness, obedience, and respect
Character formed in childhood becomes strength in adulthood.
• Talking and listening to children
Know their hearts, understand their thoughts, allow them to share opinions, and create trust inside the home.
• Encouraging children to seek God daily
Teach them to read Scripture, worship, pray, and make godly choices.
Another powerful instruction is found in Deuteronomy 6:6–7:
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children…”
God’s instruction is to teach children continually—in everyday life, at home, while walking, during ordinary conversations, and through personal example.
Parents shape generations not only through words but through everyday example, patient teaching, loving correction, and faithful guidance.
A child who receives love, guidance, and consistent teaching often carries those values into the future.
