“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21

As soon as the bell rang, the students ran to the playground as it was P.T period. They began to play on the see-saw, swing, slide and merry go round. They were advised by the teacher to stand in a line and take turns to play. Mahesh was a naughty boy. He pushed everybody and without waiting for his turn, jumped the queue and played on the play things one by one. His classmates were sad.

On seeing what Mahesh was doing Prabhu called his friends for playing a new game. Naming an animal and making the sound made by that animal was the new game. If someone said cat, the others must reply “meow, meow” All expect Mahesh joined the game. Sitting on the swing Mahesh started at Prabhu angrily and made fun of them by imitating what they said. He swung to and fro very fast. Alas, the chain broke and he fell to the ground. Prabhu ran with his friends to help him. Mahesh cried is pain. They carried him to the room where first and were given. Even though Mahesh was troublesome and unfriendly, Prabhu helped him and showed his love. Mahesh felt ashamed of himself as he saw the good nature of Prabhu. That day he decided to be friendly and to play with his classmates in harmony. As Prabhu returned good for evil, there was a change in Mahesh’s character. Naughty Mahesh became nice Mahesh.

Kids, do you like this story? We must never repay anyone evil for evil. We must learn to overcome evil with good. Jesus Christ will be pleased with you if you do well to others, ok? O…yes super…

“As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings.” - Deuteronomy 32:11

Two eaglets had crouched in a nest on the top of a steep mountain. Mother eagle was flying here and there feeding them. Then mother spread out her wings and enshrouded them in the cold night. The babies felt cozy, safe and secure under the warmth of their mother. Born again children of God are like these eaglets. They think that there will not be any problem if we are Christian.

One day mother eagle spread out her powerful wings and hovered over the nest in a different manner. She did not land on the edge of the nest. Instead, she stirred and broke the nest part by part. She pushed one of the eaglets out of the nest. The eaglet was falling towards the bottomless pit. But not so, in a flash the great mother flew down and caught the little one on her back and mounted up and placed in the nest. Mother pushed out the baby out of the broken nest again and again. Why? Actually, mother eagle had trained the babies to soar on wings to the sky.

Dears in Christ, this is the way God refines us to make us complete and perfect. When we face difficult problems in our life, we are helpless like eaglets. Our loving heavenly father does it to bless us and to reach spiritual maturity needed for flying up towards heaven.

Is God refining you now? Very soon you will be complete and perfect and equipped for every good work. Hallelujah!

“…be thankful” – Colossians 3:15

Giving thanks to the one who does a favor to us is a good habit to be cultivated. In general, ingratitude prevails in the society. A missionary who had been to Brazil found out that then word “Thanks” was missing in the language of two old tribes. When they did any favor to one another they said “I liked only this.”

A committed teacher put in forty years of dedicated service. At the age of eighty, she received a letter from one of her old students thanking her for all goodness she did to him. That was the only letter of thanks she received in her life. We are eager to receive goodness and benefit from others but fail to express our gratitude.

We read about healing of ten lepers by Jesus Christ. When He entered the village 10 lepers raised their voice and called out “they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” Jesus Christ miraculously healed them. Those who shouted for mercy went away quietly after being healed. A Samaritan among the ten turned back and glorified God loudly and fell at Jesus feet and thanked him and praised him. Jesus asked “Where are the other nine”?

Friends in Christ, God sent his only begotten son to this thankless world. Ingratitude is one of the characteristics of the fallen man. We who are saved by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ must thank others wholeheartedly. We should be grateful for the hospitality received from others, advice, travel facilities, loving, appreciation, needs met, little help in need, pleasantries, greetings, and gentle reminders. Very few people are with a grateful heart. Let us be as thankful as the Samaritan. Let’s be one of those few!

“I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.” –Psalm 3:5

It is a gift of God to be a believer to complete his work daily and go to sleep peacefully after dinner with mental gratification. It is God’s grace to wake up in the morning composed and relaxed. In the quoted verse King David says that he enjoys such blessing though he had thousands of enemies, his faith and knowledge that God loves him gave him peaceful sleep and awakening. Remember, when God’s grace is on one side, we must be careful not be fall from grace by our sins. Let us know about a few issues that ruin our peace and how to be free from them by God’s grace.

Guilty conscience: When Adam sinned, he hid himself without being blamed because of his guilty conscience. The sins that are not confessed to the Lord will ruin our peace, not only unrepentant sins but also the loveless words that hurt others and the harm done to others. So love must reign supreme in all our relationships. Never hesitate to ask forgiveness.

Debt: Our money and comfort may be sufficient or inadequate but God bless what we have and gives us gratification. The feeling of contentment is the secret and magic of happiness. Debt is an enemy for our peace of mind. Borrowing money out of necessity or urgency is different; but if it becomes a habit, it is like stepping on quicksand knowingly. In case you are in debt, plan to clear the debt and make a resolution not to owe any more.

Procrastination: Each one has some task to perform and work to carry out. Whatever the task may be, it should be done wholeheartedly with commitment. If we postpone the work continuously, we will spend sleepless nights. To glorify the name of the Lord let us bear the witness that Christians always finish the work on time perfectly.

Let us do right things relying on God and get peaceful sleep and sweet awakening.

“Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You.” – Psalm 143:8

Early morning…darkness everywhere… wonderful time to have fellowship with God. The time we wait on the Lord, seeking His presence to know His will and to receive His grace is the victorious hours. Truly it every Christian wait on the Lord before dawn, he can overcome the world.

Jesus Christ, our savior got up early in the morning, while it was still dark and went out to pray and get to know fathers will. Then he performed miracles, wonders and signs and cast out demons. Moreover, we read that the holy men of the Bible went out early in the morning to smite the enemies and to inherit lands.

For example, Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah was dismayed when Moabites and Ammonites made war against Judah. The king and his people lifted their eyes, hands and heart towards God in heaven and pleaded for help. The Lord said, “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” what happened? Early in the morning, Jehoshaphat appointed the men who sang to the Lord and the men who praised Him to go before the army. When they began singing and praising, the Lord set ambushes and so they were struck down. What a shout of great victory!

Dear friends in Christ, are you afraid of your enemy Satan? Is he challenging to destroy you? Have men risen against you? Don’t be dismayed. When God is with us, why should we fear? Isn’t the battle God’s? But we must do one thing. We must wait in God’s presence at the early hours. Early Morning Prayer is very essential, be victorious warriors experiencing early hour fellowship with God.

“Incline my heart to Your testimonies and not to covetousness.” – Psalm 119:36

Once there was a gluttonous hare in a forest. The more it ate, the more it slept. It liked to roam about independently. It was not satisfied with whatever it ate. One day the band of hares saw pods of ripe Peas hanging on the plants in a village garden. In the evening all the hare was feasting on the peas. Suddenly the leader of the hares told them to quiet the garden at once as the gardener was rushing with a rod.

This greedy hare asked the leader for a few seconds extra to fill his stomach full. All the other hares obeyed the leader and ran away. The fate hare kept on nibbling. The gardener was angry on seeing the damage made by the hares. He saw the disobedient hare and hit it with the rod. It was hurt on the leg badly, so it could not run. It limped and fell into a thorny plant. It cried out of pain, when thorns pricked it. The gardener got hold of the hare by its ears and took it home and put it in a cage. He told his wife to cook the fat hare for their meals. The hare felt sorry for not listening to the words of the leader. It realized its mistake.

Dear kids, you must not be greedy. You must pay heeds to the words of your parents, grandparents and elders. Greed leads to destruction, let not greed entice you.

“…behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” – 1Kings 19:9

A research was made about the busy cities of 32 countries. At the end of the research, it was found that people of Singapore lead a very fast life. There, people walk 60 steps in 11seconds whereas in New York in 12seconds and Malawi tribes in Africa in 31seconds. The speed of their steps has increase by ten percent in 20 years.

The speed represents the life style in this hasty world; we do everything in a hurry. Many of us did not find time to read the Bible and pray regularly before lockdown. But now almost all have started seeking the Lord fasting, meditating on His words and praying. Family prayers are conducted and more time is spent with the family. Praise is unto the Lord who in everything works for the good of His children.

Elijah, a zealous man of God was asked by the Lord to come to mount Horeb and there he spoke His words about future to him in a quiet, gentle sound. If we are busy with all the other work, we may miss the voice of the Lord like Martha. We need to wait humbly at Jesus feet and listen to Him teach like Mary sitting at Jesus feet changes our lives. Only worldly things are locked but the inner man walks with Jesus and grows in His words.

“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers…” – 2 Corinthians 6:14

Now, it is thought by the co-students, that this is the time to disrespect the one who have no Boyfriend / Girlfriend in the College. But Iniya was exception to this. She lived with lovely personality in this college as a witness. When she was in third year, one youngster told her that he loved her as his life and followed her everywhere. Iniya refused for this and walked away with wisdom. But in one stage, because of his sinister speech, she fell into his trap and married him, without informing to her parents. After becoming mother to a child, she came to know the decay thoughts of him. She came to know, much lately, that he cheated her to go away from the Lord’s way and to add her in the ignorant way, which he followed. Alas! What a pity! Iniya, who lived as loved one by the Lord, is now in the clutches of her husband, a black-guard. Result was always distressing in the family. It was pity that her children were not able to follow the way of life.

In Bible also, examples are Esau and Samson. As per the plan of the Lord, the life of Samson was to be blessed, but it was become pathetic. Satan has a master plan in our life also to destroy the plan of the Lord in our life and to separate us from the relationship with the God. He began this from Eden garden. Till today he is doing that restlessly.

Brothers and sisters, who are well shining for the Lord! Be careful not to be trapped by this devil’s sly web. Be careful to those youngsters who are utilized by the devil in his plan. There are some organizations which are encouraging youngsters by giving money to damage the eternity of the Christian youths. So, you follow the advice of the Bible which says ‘be not yoked together with unbelievers’ and be based on the God for your marriage life. Parents! Watch the life of your children with prayers. As per the guidance of the Lord, the future of the children will be blissful.

“And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged them.” – Exodus 2:25

When Israelites were under the slavery of the nation Egypt, the Lord heard their complaints and sigh and He himself put his first step to liberate them. As per the above verse, the God looked upon the children of Israel and acknowledged them. Thus, in Old Testament, the Lord, He Himself voluntarily worked. In New Testament also, to redeem the distanced humanity, the Lord Himself sent His son to redeem and renew the lost relationship. When the Lord, Almighty, who created this sky and earth, Himself humbled and took priority in doing what we need, how we are in the relationship with others? Whether we keep ourselves as ‘let them come and speak first’ and ‘let us see what they do first?’

Even the Lord takes the first step to link the relations, why don’t we take the first step to show the love of the Lord with our relations? Our Ex-President, Mr. Radhakrishnan once told like this in his speech: “we learnt to swim like fish, to fly fast like birds; but we forget many times, how to live as humans.” As God’s children, we also have the same problem. We are talking beautifully, in Christian language (love). But we must examine ourselves, how much we are living with Christian qualities.

Let us lead to love, excuse, inquire and respect others. We will search for the people with whom we broke and lost our relationship because of various reasons. When we keep ourselves as enemies and sinners to the Lord, He seek us and came to us and by the death of His son, He added us. Let us also reveal the God’s love like Jesus.

“…but God meant it for good… to save many people alive.” – Genesis 50:20

“Alas! My eye is damaged”, by hearing this shout with weeping sound, the father, who was stitching slipper, ran to his son. When he tried to stitch a slipper with eager, like his father, he mistakenly stabbed his eyes with that needle. When tried to make it restore, his both the eyes were made blind. That little boy was Louis Braille who belonged to the country of France.

He only made “Braille”, the method of studying with the help of fingers for visually challenged. With six dots, he wrote, 63 types of letters. Because of this effort, visually challenged people are living by getting graduated and employed. The Lord has done a great job to the following generations by using Braille, who was blind of both the eyes. The Lord has meant the evil happened to him as good.

In Bible, by the jealous of his brothers, Joseph was pushed into the pit, but the Lord has ended up as good, the evils in his life. Yes. You also do not be discouraged by seeing the sufferings, disease and problem in your life. The Lord raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the ash. To set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory.

My beloveds! The Lord, who makes all imperfections into perfect ones, is with you. In the life of you, who loves Him, all will be happening for good only. You will see that the evils will turn into good and suffering will turn into happiness. Hallelujah!

“…It is more blessed to give than to receive.” – Acts 20:35

Hello, Kids! Are you doing well? Shall we hear a story?

Mala was studying 5th standard. She is a darling in her home. At any time on her father’s salary day, it was their custom that Mala would go for shopping along with her father. This month also, on 2nd date evening, she came from her school, finished her home works early and waited for the arrival of her father. After sometime, when she heard the sound of her father’s bike, she ran and opened the gate. She asked “Dad! Shall we go for shopping?” He told, “Dear Mala! Dad will wash my face, hand and feet and will have some coffee and then we shall go.” After sometime they started. She was so attracted by one pearl necklace seen in one shop. It was looked like original pearl. When asked about the price, they told that it was Rs 40.00. Even, she requested her father adamantly and bought. She wore the same daily. She saw herself in mirror and felt happy. When everyone in her school told her that your necklace was super, her happiness would be doubled.

One day, her neighbor, Ranjani having toffees of orange in a cover, tapped their door. “What Ranjani” asked Mala. She told “Sister! Today is my birthday. So, I came here to give you the toffee.” Within a minute, Mala scanned from head to feet of Ranjani. She thought in her mind, “Oho! She didn’t wear anything new.” When she thought of giving something to Ranjani, she remembered that when she went to buy coconut in a shop, there stood Ranjani and told that my pearl necklace is super.” Immediately she removed the pearl necklace from her neck and put it in Ranjani’s neck and took one orange toffee and told with smile in her face, “Happy Birthday to you”. Ranjani got much happiness! Mala also said “It is more beautiful to you than me.” When her father came to know this, he bought a costly original pearl necklace and gifted it on her birthday.

See Kids! The Lord loves giving. The Bible says that those who are giving are more blessed than who are getting. Will you also become a blessed, by giving, dear?

“…let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” – 2 Corinthians 7:1

Ermine is an animal which looks like a hare. It’s skin is used to make coats. Coats made by this white and soft skin are very costly. The specialty of this animal is it won’t allow any dirt and stain on it. It won’t go near any impurity. So, those who go for hunting for its skin will follow one technique. They will put dirty stuffs in front of its living place of tree holes and wait. After getting its food, when returning to the tree holes, ermines will see the dirty stuffs and will have no mind to get in and will go to the hunters. Then again go to the holes. Like this, it will run and run and finally, since it will not like to get into impurity of itself, it will surrender itself to the hunters. What a marvelous character for this animal! We, as Christians, should have this character, no?

We should surrender ourselves as holy, before the Lord, without getting ourselves into impurity. With perseverance we must go away from the worldly things which will make us filthy. In his book called “Pilgrim’s Progress”, John Bunyan says in an environment “we are ready to lose our life than to spoil us.” In Bible, Joseph thought “I prefer to be in jail with harassment of by tying my legs with fetter rather than to be in my master’s sophisticated room.” Daniel too decided not to defile himself and acted bravely, no?

Beloveds! May be, don’t you have the strength to go away, like Joseph and Daniel? Now look towards Jesus. By Jesus, our dear savior, who tolerated the death on the Cross for us and pouring his valuable love on us forever, we can excel in success at all time! We shall hold Him and progress in Him without any stain.
