ആഗോള പൗരസ്ത്യ കൽദായ സുറിയാനി സഭയുടെ പരമാധ്യക്ഷനായി മാർ ആവാ റോയേൽ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ആസ്ത്രേലിയായിലെ മെത്രാപ്പോലീത്ത മാർ മീലീസ് സയ്യയുടെ അദ്ധ്യക്ഷതയിൽ സഭാ ആസ്ഥാനമായ ഇറാഖിലെ എർബിലിൽ നടക്കുന്ന സിനഡിലാണ് സഭയുടെ 122 മത് പാത്രിയർക്കീസായി നിലവിൽ കാലിഫോർണിയയിലെ ബിഷപ്പായ മാർ ആവാ റോയേൽ എപ്പിസ്കോപ്പ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടത്.
സഭയുടെ 121-ാം പരിശുദ്ധ പാതൃയർക്കീസ് മാറൻ മാർ ഗീവർഗ്ഗീസ് സ്ലീവ മൂന്നാമൻ സ്ഥാനത്യാഗം ചെയ്തതിനാലാണ്‌ പുതിയ പാതൃയർക്കീസിനെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കേണ്ടി വന്നിട്ടുള്ളത്.
നിലവിൽ സഭയുടെ അമേരിക്കയിലെ കാലിഫോർണിയ ഭദ്രാസനത്തിന്റെ അപ്പിസ്കോപ്പയും, പരിശുദ്ധ സുൻഹാദോസ് സെക്രട്ടറിയുമാണ് നാല്പത്തിയാറുകാരനായ മാർ ആവ്വ റോയൽ.
