Significance of Makar Sankranti-
It is believed that on this day Surya went to his house after forgetting his displeasure with his son Shani Dev. According to religious beliefs, by bathing, donating, worshiping etc. in the holy river on this day, the virtuous effect of a person increases a thousand times. With the end of Malmas from this day, the auspicious month begins. This special day is considered a day of happiness and prosperity.
2).Why Makar Sankranti is called Kite Festival festival-
This festival is also known as 'Kite Festival'. On this day people stand on the roofs and fly kites. However, spending a few hours in the sunlight is said to be the main reason behind flying kites. In this winter season, sunlight is very beneficial for the body and for the skin and bones.
3).Snan in the Ganges to attain salvation.
In Sanatan Dharma, Makar Sankranti has been described as the ladder of salvation. It is believed that on this date Bhishma Pitamah attained salvation. Simultaneously, the Sun moves from Dakshinayana to Uttarayan, due to which Kharmas ends. Kalpavas in Prayag also starts from Makar Sankranti. This day is considered a day of happiness and prosperity. Bathing in the Ganges is considered to be the way to salvation and for this reason people donate along with Ganga Snan on this date.
4).Historical significance of Makar Sankranti Edit..
It is believed that on this day Lord Bhaskar himself goes to meet his son Shani at his house. Since Shani Dev is the lord of Capricorn, hence this day is known as Makar Sankranti. In the Mahabharata period, Bhishma Pitamah had chosen Makar Sankranti to leave his body. On the day of Makar Sankranti, Gangaji followed Bhagiratha and met him in the ocean passing through Kapil Muni's ashram.
