As described previously, the magnitude of the soul is so small for our material calculation that he cannot be seen even by the most powerful microscope; therefore, he is invisible. As far as the soul’s existence is concerned, no one can establish his existence experimentally beyond the proof of śruti or Vedic wisdom. We have to accept this truth, because there is no other source of understanding the existence of the soul, although it is a fact by perception. There are many things we have to accept solely on grounds of superior authority. No one can deny the existence of his father, based upon the authority of his mother. There is no other source of understanding the identity of the father except by the authority of the mother. Similarly, there is no other source of understanding the soul except by studying the Vedas. In other words, the soul is inconceivable by human experimental knowledge. The soul is consciousness and conscious-that also is the statement of the Vedas, and we have to accept that. Unlike the bodily changes, there is no change in the soul. As eternally unchangeable, the soul remains atomic in comparison to the infinite Supreme Soul. The Supreme Soul is infinite, and the atomic soul is infinitesimal. Therefore, the infinitesimal soul, being unchangeable, can never become equal to the infinite soul, or the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This concept is repeated in the Vedas in different ways just to confirm the stability of the conception of the soul. Repetition of something is necessary in order that we understand the matter thoroughly without error.

जैसा कि पहले कहा जा चुका है, आत्मा इतना सूक्ष्म है कि इसे सर्वाधिक शक्तिशाली सूक्ष्मदर्शी यंत्र से भी नहीं देखा जा सकता, अतः यह अदृश्य है | जहाँ तक आत्मा के अस्तित्व का सम्बन्ध है, श्रुति के प्रमाण के अतिरिक्त अन्य किसी प्रयोग द्वारा इसके अस्तित्व को सिद्ध नहीं किया जा सकता | हमें इस सत्य को स्वीकार करना पड़ता है क्योंकि अनुभवगम्य सत्य होते हुए भी आत्मा के अस्तित्व को समझने के लिए कोई अन्य साधन नहीं है | हमें अनेक बातें केवल उच्च प्रमाणों के आधार पर माननी पड़ती है | कोई भी अपनी माता के आधार पर अपने पिता के अस्तित्व को अस्वीकार नहीं कर सकता | पिता के स्वरूप को जानने का साधन या एकमात्र प्रमाण माता है | इसी प्रकार वेदाध्ययन के अतिरिक्त आत्मा को समझने का अन्य उपाय नहीं है | दूसरे शब्दों में, आत्मा मानवीय व्यावहारिक ज्ञान द्वारा अकल्पनीय है | आत्मा चेतना है और चेतन है – वेदों के इस कथन को हमें स्वीकार करना होगा | आत्मा में शरीर जैसे परिवर्तन नहीं होते | मूलतः अविकारी रहते हुए आत्मा अनन्त परमात्मा की तुलने में अणु-रूप है | परमात्मा अनन्त है और अणु-आत्मा अति सूक्ष्म है | अतः अति सूक्ष्म आत्मा अविकारी होने के कारण अनन्त आत्मा भगवान् के तुल्य नहीं हो सकता | यही भाव वेदों में भिन्न-भिन्न प्रकार से आत्मा के स्थायित्व की पुष्टि करने के लिए दुहराया गया है | किसी बात का दुहराना उस तथ्य को बिना किसी त्रुटि के समझने के लिए आवश्यक है |

All these qualifications of the atomic soul definitely prove that the individual soul is eternally the atomic particle of the spirit whole, and he remains the same atom eternally, without change. The theory of monism is very difficult to apply in this case, because the individual soul is never expected to become one homogeneously. After liberation from material contamination, the atomic soul may prefer to remain as a spiritual spark in the effulgent rays of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but the intelligent souls enter into the spiritual planets to associate with the Personality of Godhead.

अणु-आत्मा के इतने सारे गुण यही सिद्ध करते हैं कि आत्मा पूर्ण आत्मा का अणु-अंश है और बिना किसी परिवर्तन के निरन्तर उसी तरह बना रहता है | इस प्रसंग में अद्वैतवाद को व्यवहृत करना कठिन है क्योंकि अणु-आत्मा कभी भी परम-आत्मा के साथ मिलकर एक नहीं हो सकता | भौतिक कल्मष से मुक्त होकर अणु-आत्मा भगवान् के तेज की किरणों की आध्यात्मिक स्फुलिंग बनकर रहना चाह सकता है, किन्तु बुद्धिमान जीव तो भगवान् की संगति करने के लिए वैकुण्ठलोक में प्रवेश करता है |

All kinds of weapons, swords, flames, rains, tornadoes, etc., are unable to kill the spirit soul. It appears that there were many kinds of weapons made of earth, water, air, ether, etc., in addition to the modern weapons of fire. Even the nuclear weapons of the modern age are classified as fire weapons, but formerly there were other weapons made of all different types of material elements. Fi****ms were counteracted by water weapons, which are now unknown to modern science. Nor do modern scientists have knowledge of tornado weapons. Nonetheless, the soul can never be cut into pieces, nor annihilated by any number of weapons, regardless of scientific devices.

सारे हथियार – तलवार, आग्नेयास्त्र, वर्षा के अस्त्र, चक्रवात आदि आत्मा को मारने में असमर्थ हैं | ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि आधुनिक आग्नेयास्त्रों के अतिरिक्त मिट्टी, जल, वायु, आकाश आदि के भी अनेक प्रकार के हथियार होते थे | यहाँ तक कि आधुनिक युग के नाभिकीय हथियारों की गणना भी आग्नेयास्त्रों में की जाती है, किन्तु पूर्वकाल में विभिन्न पार्थिव तत्त्वों से बने हुए हथियार होते थे | आग्नेयास्त्रों का सामना जल के (वरुण) हथियारों से किया जाता था, जो आधुनिक विज्ञान के लिए अज्ञात हैं | आधुनिक विज्ञान को चक्रवात हथियारों का भी पता नहीं है | जो भी हो, आत्मा को न तो कभी खण्ड-खण्ड किया जा सकता है, न किन्हीं वैज्ञानिक हथियारों से उसका संहार किया जा सकता है, चाहे उनकी संख्या कितनी ही क्यों न हो |

Change of body by the atomic individual soul is an accepted fact. Even some of the modern scientists who do not believe in the existence of the soul, but at the same time cannot explain the source of energy from the heart, have to accept continuous changes of body which appear from childhood to boyhood and from boyhood to youth and again from youth to old age. From old age, the change is transferred to another body.
