Changed condition of Shri Guru Datta Akhada after his arrival

The Akhada has walls as well as buildings around it in all four directions. There are facilities for thousands of devotees and sadhus for staying in the luxurious houses. There is a solid harbour. Every day hundred and fifty to two hundred sadhus are fed. A Sanskrit and Hindi school is run for poor Brahmin students. These students are provided free living, food and clothing. Besides that, 1500-2000 cows are taken care of. There is also one wish-fulfilling cow. There are at least six samadhis (live samadhis) here. That means that saints of great penance knowingly left their bodies while alive.
There is a linga of Gaurishankar Mahadev. It is a twin linga. This kind of a linga, which is in this place, is unique. In addition, rituals start from four in the morning here. And then after a break of about four hours in the afternoon, continues until midnight. In addition, bhajans and reading of other people continues here for twenty-four hours. It was this Mahatma of great penance who put this place in this condition. But God knows what will happen to this organisation in future.

Some examples of the greatness of Shri SandhyaPuriji's penance

Very few trees on the land surrounding the Shri Guru Datta Akhada gave fruits. For example, mangoes, tamarind and bilva. These trees used to give a lot of fruit, but they all contained insects inside the fruit. They could not be used. After Shri SandhyaPuriji came to the throne of Shri Guru Datta Akhada, as the akhada progressed, many kinds of trees increased in number, and the trees which were bearing fruit gave more fruits, and those insects disappeared. The fruits started to get used. Each tree started blooming well and produced good fruit.

Once the Mahatma visited this author’s home in Mumbai. The writer's wife was always there to help him with his food, and this time another woman was also inspired to assist in this task and the author's wife did not refuse, thinking that she would be hurt if she was refused to do so. Thus, having two cooks, in the milk given to Mahatmaji, rock salt got added to the milk instead of sugar. Mahatmaji drank that milk and did not report that such an incident had happened. But according to the custom, a small amount of that milk is kept aside as prasad. About a couple of hours later, when the people of the house took the prasad, it was discovered that it had rock salt instead of sugar. The strange thing was that even when the milk was boiled, it did not break but even after two hours, the milk’s condition remained unchanged and did not break.

Some miracles and wonderful occurences

One time in the Shri Guru Datta Akhada he was sitting on his seat. Many devotees were coming and going. During that, one fellow who was a district magistrate came with his son. His son was eight years old and had been dumb since birth. Mamlatdar's wish was that this Mahatmaji should shower his kindness and his son would start to speak. Both the son and the father prostrated at the feet of the Mahatma, who took a beautiful ripe mango in his hand from his many fruits lying in front of him, and with his hand extended towards the boy. The boy immediately said, 'Give mango'. This is how like Madhava, he also could make the dumb talkative. The boy started to talk normally from then on.

Effect of ash

A relative of Ahmedabad-based Narandas Seth was suffering from TB disease. Many specialist doctors were consulted. Thousands of rupees were also spent and as they were leaving hope, at the request of Shri Bhikhabhai, Narandas went to Ujjain to tell about this fact, brought ash and fed it to the patient. Consuming the ash completely eliminated the TB disease in his bones. That ash has cured many of the incurable diseases, I do not give a detailed description of. But by asking any of his devotees, they will be able to bear witness to this fact.

About two-three incidents

Once Shri SandhyaPuriji, along with this author and some devotees, went to the temple of Mahakal after midnight. The priest of Mahakal, who always used to come to Shri Guru Datta Akhada, was present there. But he could not identify him. The priest came the next morning to the Akhada and told the Mahatma that some saint of great penance came to the temple after midnight for darshan. He wore a black cloak. At that time, MaharajShri only said that this is a big city, and some sadhu may have come! The devotees who had gone with him were present there and were astonished.

One day, early in the evening, he took bath, went to the seat and slept on it. No one understood the reason. Later, it was learned that his great devotee, Shri Bhikhabhai, had left his body that day.

Once upon a time, this writer was going to Surat for personal court case. On Surat station, while alighting from the train, he fell on the rails but he escaped with just a sprain, and in that condition, he returned to Mumbai. At that time, Shri Narayandas from Amdavad reached MaharajShri in Ujjain from Itarsi. He wanted to go to Amdavad. But the MaharajShri ordered him to go to Shri Nanubhai in Mumbai. Thus he sent Shri Narandas to this author who had no other person to help him at that time.

Similarly, he had once commanded his cousin Shri Manibhai, who did not obey. Once in November-December, when Shri Manibhai went to Ujjain, Mahatma told him that he should go straight to his village or to Mumbai without going for any other work. He was also moderately ill. But he could not resist the temptation to inaugurate his shop in Burhanpur, and left Ujjain to go there instead of going to Bhadeli or Mumbai. Mahatma had told him clearly that he should go straight to his home. Not obeying, he left Ujjain, and on their way, on Khandwa station, he had a heart failure and left his body there itself at the station.

He came to Mumbai that day

Now here in Mumbai, this author lived in the Shree Dattatreya building in the Chikalwadi area near Grant Road. His little boy Gajendra was ill. He was about nine-ten months old. He died on the day the Mahatma wrote of coming a fortnight ago. This saint of great penance had reached Nasik and he delayed coming to Mumbai for three days by going to Alandi, etc. The sutak of the death of a young child is finished on the fourth day, so at noon, on that day, he came to the author’s home with the beard and jata removed, but with the black cloak and turban.

He had not even seen Mumbai. The horse carriage was stopped outside, and despite having four or five houses there, he put his foot first in the author's house and found his room number. After coming here, he took his bath and started to rest. Around three or four o’clock, he had fallen asleep. This was the time of Diwali. Seeing the special insistence and love of the author and his wife, he decided to spend the whole Diwali there and gave the benefit of good darshan and bhajan to the devotees.

From here, he went towards Gujarat via Dahanu, Valsad, etc. This was his first visit to Gujarat. After completing all the tours, he went to Shri Bhikhabhai’s home in Kankaria, where he was at that time on the position of station master. From there, he directly reached Ujjain, to Shri Guru Datta Akhada. The hearts of all the sadhus living there were filled with joy and they all turned mad with delight.

Why the practice of touring in Gujarat started

In the year 1935, Mahatma became very ill in the Shri Guru Datta Akhada. Since the condition was very serious, the doctor asked him if he would like to inform someone about his illness. He then informed that there is Shri Bhikhabhai in Surat. Please inform him. Upon hearing of this, Shri Bhikhabhai reached Ujjain immediately and upon the improvement of the health of the Mahatma, he urged him to come with him to his residence at what is now known as Bhikheshwar Niwas.

Here he was well taken care of and kept until his health improved. He must have spent about a month here. Then with the suggestion and insistence of Shri Bhikhabhai as well as the considering the feelings of other devotees, he decided to spend time in Gujarat after leaving Ujjain on Magshar sud first reaching before Mahashivaratri every year. Accordingly he would tour Gujarat for two months every year to give darshan to the poorest of the devotees.

Something about his pilgrimage

He left Ratlam and reached Kashi, Haridwar and Prayag. In Prayag, he got his jata (hair tuft) and the beard removed, which he had kept to this day, and arranged for a meal of mahatmas in a large number. After that he would get his head tonsured every Wednesday. Yet he liked his photograph with beard and jata very much. He then went to Kuldevi's darshan near Guwahati in Assam. From there he had gone to Jagannathpuri and Calcutta also.

There is one Belur monastery of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Mahatma near Calcutta, where he went to stay, but the rules there were strict, and according to their rule, one could not smoke ma*****na there. Seeing him smoke ma*****na, he was told that if he smoked ma*****na, he cannot stay in the monastery. He said that he would leave the monastery but let him first have a bath and then he would leave. After this, he went to the river to have bath. Behind him, an officer of the monastery also went for a bath.

At the time of the bath, the officer noticed something and insisted that he stay in the monastery only. The rules of the monastery were also put aside. Call it a miracle, no matter what the spectacular sight, but it awakened faith in the Belur monastery officer of him, and he felt that he was a great yogi and a sadhu of great penance.

From there, after darshan in Jagannathpuri, he went via Madras to Paksh*tirth (Chingleput) and got darshan. Then he went to places like Rameshwar and arrived in Pandharpur. From here he got an educated person accompanying him to write a letter to the author saying that he would come to Mumbai on a certain day.
