Maha Puja - 09-06-2026

Mahapuja commemorates the moksha of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi's mother, Alagamma. This significant event took place at Skandasramam on May 19, 1922. In the very room where his mother attained moksha, Bhagavan sat with her for many hours, her head on his lap, his hands on her head and heart, preparing her for the final liberation. Through his profound spiritual presence and guidance, Bhagavan ensured that his mother attained moksha.
After her passing, when someone mentioned the death of his mother, Bhagavan gently corrected them, saying, "No, not passed away, absorbed." This profound moment marked a pivotal point in the spiritual life of the ashram and led to the establishment of the Ramana Ashram itself.
As we commemorate this event, we recognize that we are now more than 100 years beyond that transformative moment. This year, the Mahapuja is celebrated with even greater reverence and devotion, reflecting on a century of spiritual legacy and divine grace.
Following Alagamma's moksha, a lingam was installed on her Samadhi, and regular Puja to the Matrubhuteswara Linga commenced. It was the revered scholar Kavyakantha Ganapati Muni who named the linga Matrubhuteswara. Additionally, the Sri Chakra Puja, a highly significant ritual, was initiated after the installation of the Meru in this shrine. This Puja is performed six days a month, adding to the spiritual vibrancy of the ashram.
The Mahapuja is celebrated annually in the summer, specifically on the ninth day of the dark half of the solar month Vaikasi (May/June), known as Vaishaka Bahula Navami. This year, the event falls on June 9. On the morning of June 9, 2026, the grand Rudram Puja Abhishekam was performed in the mother’s shrine with great splendor. This was followed by the special decoration of the lingam and various anointing ceremonies. Devotional songs filled the air, and the ceremony concluded with deeparadhana (worship with light) around 10:15 am. Nearly a thousand devotees attended the event physically, partaking in a festive feast arranged for the occasion. Additionally, the live telecast of the event was watched by more than five thousand people worldwide (https://www.youtube.com/SriRamanasramam/live).

On the auspicious occasion of Maha Pooja, a complete recitation (Mutrothal) of Thiruvasagam was held at the shrines of Bhagavan and the Divine Mother. A large gathering of devotees participated and chanted the sacred verses with deep devotion.

The Mahapuja is not only a time to honor the memory and moksha of Alagamma but also a celebration of the continued spiritual guidance and blessings that emanate from Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi and his mother. May the grace of the Mother bless us all abundantly.

The Aradhana Day of Major A.W.Chadwick was observed on 17th April 2026 at his samadhi (tomb) located inside the Ashram. On this occasion, the samadhi was adorned and decorated with flowers. At around 10.00 am, devotees gathered and recited the Aksharamanamalai. Subsequently, aarthi was performed and offerings of puffed rice, jaggery and raisins etc. were distributed to all.

Major A.W. Chadwick O.B.E. (1890-1962) was in the British army serving in South America. After getting captivated by Brunton's A Search in Secret India (no.1), he resigned his post, came to meet Bhagavan in November 1935. During their interaction, Chadwick was deeply moved by the presence and wisdom of Ramana Maharshi. The sage's teachings resonated with him, sparking a profound inner transformation. Chadwick's encounter with Ramana Maharshi marked a turning point in his life, leading him to pursue a spiritual path and eventually becoming one of the Maharshi's devotees. After this encounter, Chadwick's life took a different trajectory. He dedicated himself to spiritual practices and the study of Vedanta. The story of Major Alan Chadwick's encounter with Ramana Maharshi serves as a testament to the transformative power of spiritual guidance and the profound impact of such encounters on individual lives.

76th Aradhana of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi - 15-04-2026

The 76th Aradhana of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi was conducted today (April 15, 2026).

Early in the morning (4:45 am), there was mangala music followed by a special decoration of the Ramaneswara lingam in the samadhi shrine with multi-coloured flowers. This was followed by Mahanyasa Rudra Japam, parayana of Bhagavan’s works and then anointing ceremonies. Finally, devotional songs were sung and deeparadhana was held at around 11 am followed by a festive feast offered to all devotees. The event was telecast live on YouTube, watched by more than ten thousand people and attended physically by more than five thousand people.

Bhagavan had said “They say that I am dying, but I am not going away. Where could I go? I am here.” In Talks, he says, "You mistake the body for the Guru. But the Guru does not think so himself. He is the formless Self. That is within you; he appears without only to guide you." "If he has surrendered himself to God or to Guru the Power to which he had surrendered will take him on the right course. The worker need no longer concern himself about the rectitude or otherwise of the course. The doubt will arise only if he fails to obey the Master in all details." "If a man is anxious for Deliverance, the Guru within pulls him in and the Guru without pushes him into the Self. This is the Grace of the Guru."

On the day of his aradhana, let us remember Bhagavan’s words “The Self can be reached only by "dying"; but (this) dying does not consist in destruction of the body; one should understand that true death is the extinction of the ideas "I" and "mine."
