Temple History:
The Amarasundraeshwarar Kovil is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva that is located in the city of Trichirapalli at the thuraiyur taluk , singalandapuram village in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is an important example of Tamil architecture achieved during the Chola dynasty.
The esteemed architect and engineer of the temple was great king rajendran-I as stated in inscriptions found at the temple. The temple was built per ancient texts called Vaastu Shastras and Agamas.
This temple was built during year[1017 – 1273].
It is said to be the land was donate to this temple by Koluthunga cholan in the year 1102.The pandiyan king Ida Varman sundrapandiyan also donates his village keraumbaur to this temple
As stated in the inscriptions said to be temple thiruvazgha was celebrated for seven days in the tamil month of chithrai in the year 1017 for god agailandeshwari amman .
As stated in inscriptions, the raja raja cholan before going to war with sri lanka (singalam) .He worshipped this temple siva god and he wins the war with singalam. So for the memory of his father his son named this village as singalandapuram.Singalandapuram means he was devil to singalam(sri lanka) (singalargulka ellam eman endru arutham.)
So villagers here comes to the temple and worshipped siva god and englighten ghee lamp to win their battle in life.
It is said to be there are atmost 9 inscriptions found in the evidence of it was built by chola dynasty.There will be also more inscriptions may be found inside the earth.
