OUR PATRON SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL

Funny, charming, impassioned, candid - Vincent de Paul had an extraordinary capacity to connect with all types of people and to move them to be inflamed with the Gospel and to live their lives in charity.

His basic vision was simply that the Good News of Jesus Christ should be announced to the poor through word and service.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY LOGO- THE FISH

The logo of the Society of St Vincent de Paul consists of a stylised fish in a blue circle. The fish, an ancient symbol of Christianity, in this case represents Christianity as expressed through the work of the Society of St Vincent de Paul. The red eye of the fish is the caring eye of God looking for and guiding us towards ways of helping the poor and underprivileged in our midst. The crossing of the lines at the tail represents unity and oneness among members. It also represents Society members working in union with the poor and needy. The circle represents the global nature of the Society.
The motto is "Serviens in Spe", to Serve in Hope. Hope, in the Rule of the Society, is described as being to the human spirit what air is to the lungs. "We have a real hope that our work will make a difference, both in the lives of those we visit and, in a mysterious way, the world at large."

This year marks the bicentenary of the St Vincent de Paul Society’s founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam. This year we invite you to celebrate with us his 200th birth anniversary, to honour his memory and observe the lasting legacy he has left.The St Vincent de Paul Society is commemorating the bicentenary of Frederic’s birth throughout 2013.
