A very old, historically important and one among the greatest temples in Kerala, known in the name 'Kerala Pazhani' Thayamkulangara Sree Subrahmanya Swami temple situates west of Thrissur-Thriprayar route at Cherpu of Thrissur District, facing east. Both the side of the temple lived Brahmin families. East of the main road, at the eastern end from the temple, facing Subrahmanya Swamy resides Hidumb
an Swamy, the great devotee of Subrahmanya Swamy. Sub deity Ganapathy's idol is also there behind the Subrahmanya shrine, facing east. Chittoor Mana, which was the chief landlord family of old Kochi State, owns this temple. The ancestors of this family, especially Swamiyar Sankaran Namboothiripad and son viz., Ashtamoorthi Namboothiripad who was famous in the name 'Chittoor Elma’, Vasudevan Namboothiripad and Narayanan Namboothiripad who were the Fifth and Sixth Lords respectively were all interested in the improvement and proper functioning of the temple affairs. During their period, about 131 years back, they renovated the Temple. They did a Naveekarana Kalasam, put Copper Plates in the Temple, made Golden Plating of Thazhikakudam (top dome of the Temple), made a processional way around the Temple, renewed the Temple Pond and made side steps with laterite stone etc. On a divination by Astrologers to find the will of the God (Devaprasanam) started from the 30th September 1988 it was found this Temple is as old as Peruvanam Mahadeva Temple. The Astrologers also advised the devotees to pray Baala Muruga (Child Subrahmanya). The Baala Murugan will provide us with prosperity and welfare to all. Also as he is believed to be the ‘God of Astrology’ (Jyothisham) by praying him all Astrological Problems can be solved. Those who serve him will be enriched with artistic talents too. 10th May 1989 onwards there was a Sampoorna Naveekarana Kalasam (Total Renovation Offerings) was done and many developmental actions were planned and executed by the owner and Managing Trustee Advocate C. Narayanan Namboothiripad and Melsanthi (Head Priest) Keezhillam Krishnan Namboothiri. In 1994, they constructed two decorative Gate Towers. In January 2003, the installations of Sarpa-Prathishta (Serpent) and ‘42 Gods’ were done. During May 2003, Nava Graha Prathishta (Nine Planets) and construction of a hall for Holy Prasada for Devotees was done. On 4th February 2004, Ayyappa Prathishta and Hidumban Swamy Puna: Prathishta were undertaken.
