SHIVARAJA YOGI SHRI THYCAUD AYYA GURU SWAMI THIRUVADIKAL
His holiness Sri Thycaud Ayya Guru Swami Thiruvadikal was a great Yogi, Guru and Acharya of ancient Shivaraja Yogic tradition. He met H.H. Moolam Thirunal Maharaja and informed his decision. Swamikal’s elder son Sri Lokanatha Panikkar was also present. Maharaja wanted him to postpone his decision. Swamikal was firm in his decision.

Maharaja wanted the Samadhi to kept at the Royal Palace compound. But Swamikal firmly resisted and told that it should be kept at the Thycaud cremation ground only. Nobody could understand the real meaning of this decision. After the meeting with the Maharaja, Swamikal went into Nirvikalpa Samadhi for one week and came out on the last day. Kollathamma, Swayamprakasha Yogini and many of the disciples were present. Resident and his wife came to see Swamikal and they felt very sad. Swamikal pacified them telling that he is not going to die just like others. This is only a change for him. He told his elder son to light camphor. He loudly chanted his Guruwstrotram (Thiruandpakuthi of Manikkavachakar ) and closed his eyes. There were a rare light (divya prakasham) filling the room with fragrance. The Palace doctor inspected the body and found that the body is still warm but no pulse. His son explained to others that this is the Jeeva Samadhi. As desired, his Mahasamdhi was laid at Thycaud cremation ground with state honor. All Hindu officers attended the function. After 41 days of pooja the Royal family acquired the land surrounding the Mahasamadhi and constructed a Mandapam over there. In 1943 they constructed a Shiva temple over the Mandapam. The temple has very rare Sivalingam which is facing the north. Swamikal’s elder son Sri. Lokanathapanikkar continued the tradition of shivaraja yoga and he had many disciples. He attained Samadhi in 1955. His Samadhi was also enshrined in the temple complex. His desciples formed "Sivarajayogi Thycattu Ayya Guru Smaraka Aadhyatma Vidya Sangham" and started daily pooja at the shiva temple. In 1962 Swamikal’s younger son Sri Palanivel attained Samadhi which was enshrined in the temple complex. In 1969 Sri Ayya Mission Trust was formed by merging the earlier Sangham into it. In 1989, at the instance of the Trust, a Charitable Organization with same title and rules and regulation was formed, with an objective to propagate the teachings of Swamikal and to open Asrams and Sadhana centers in other parts of the country and abroad. The Trustees of the Mission are nominees of Sivagiri Mutt, Panmana asram, Sri Kulathur Swayam Prakasha Asramam, Travancore Royal Family, Swamikal's kins settled in Nagercoil, Thiruchandoor, Chennai and Bangalore, and nominated members of Sri Ayya Gurukulam.
