And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless, at thy word I will let down the net - Luke 5:5

This is a well-known incident that we have heard countless times in our churches and various gatherings. Today, however, we will delve deeper into this story as the Holy Spirit helps us understand it more profoundly.

If we reflect from the beginning, we see that Jesus Christ went to that place to teach the people. There was a large crowd gathered, and Jesus was teaching them many things. To carry out His ministry, He needed a place to sit. There were two boats, and He chose Simon's boat.

Now, from Simon's perspective, he was busy washing his nets. But he did not deny Jesus his support and allowed Him to sit in his boat. To do this, he had to move his boat a little into the sea.

After Jesus finished His ministry, He immediately asked Simon to launch out into the sea to catch fish. However, Simon didn’t tell Jesus anything beforehand. But Jesus knew his situation and, proactively, offered him the opportunity to experience God's supernatural grace.

In our lives as well, when we support the ministry of God in any form, God will definitely look after our needs at the right time. Simon simply offered his boat, that’s all. In today's world, some may support by cleaning, providing resources, working, and many other unseen or seemingly insignificant tasks in ministry. But in God’s sight, even giving a small glass of water for the work of the ministry is not forgotten by Him.

Next, Simon was a professional fisherman, but he still couldn’t catch a single fish. He knew the sea well and was with his teammates, doing their regular job, but nothing worked out. In that disappointing situation, Jesus came to his boat and asked him to move it so that He could speak to the gathered crowd. If we were in that situation, we might have told Jesus to check other boats, as we were already disappointed and busy washing the nets. But Simon did not do that.

Furthermore, when you meditate on the time of night, you realize it is a time when sunlight is absent, all people, and most animals and birds go to rest, and no one will be available to offer help if needed. Night is a time when you cannot see clearly and there is no visibility of the way forward. In this same context, Simon toiled all night without help, without a working plan, and with no visible way to success.

There is an important phrase used by Simon:

Nevertheless, at thy word I will let down the net. — Luke 5:5

The only difference between the night and now was the word of Jesus. The word of Jesus is nothing but the word of God. When God speaks, His word comes with an “Amen.” When Simon obeyed the word of Jesus, he experienced success.

And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. — Luke 5:6

From this portion, we can extract a few important points:

When you take part in the ministry of God, no matter how small the task may seem, you will receive your reward.

When you support the work of God, even in life’s disappointments, you will receive God's support to overcome your disappointments.

When you work hard without the word of God, you may not see success. But once you receive the word of God, believe it, and act accordingly, you will surely see success.

May God help us to learn and apply these truths in our own lives.

Prayer

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for teaching us today about the wonderful truth that supporting the work of God, no matter how small, does not go unnoticed or unrewarded. Thank You for Your faithfulness. Help us to support Your work in any possible way in our lives. I pray this in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!

Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. -Matthew 16:6

Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. -Matthew 13:33

Today, we’ll explore the metaphor of yeast, which can represent various influences in our lives. Just as yeast transforms dough, the influences we allow in can shape us for better or worse.

Yeast is a small but powerful agent that transforms dough by fermenting sugars, but without sugars, yeast remains inactive and ineffective. In much the same way, sugars, from a human perspective, act as dopamine agents that provide pleasure and motivation when consumed. Symbolically, sugars represent our interests, pleasures, and enthusiasm—essential ingredients that energize and inspire us to engage meaningfully in any activity. Just as yeast requires sugars to activate and work its transformative magic, we too need a sense of purpose and joy to ignite our potential and create something impactful.

In Matthew 16:6, Jesus warns His disciples about the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees, symbolizing a corrupting influence. Unlike the beneficial yeast that transforms dough for nourishment, this "bad yeast" represents the worldly, hypocritical, power-seeking, and compromising lifestyle of the Pharisees. Their actions and teachings were not rooted in truth or humility but were driven by a desire for control and outward appearances, ultimately leading others astray. This warning reminds us to guard our hearts against influences that compromise our faith and to live with integrity, seeking God's approval rather than the praise of people.

Imagine a child choosing friends. Good friends encourage kindness and honesty, much like the good yeast of God's Word. Conversely, bad influences can lead to poor choices. Consider a young professional starting their career. Positive mentors and a supportive environment act as the good yeast of God's teachings, fostering growth. Negative influences, can derail progress.

In Matthew 13:33, Jesus uses yeast as a metaphor for the kingdom of heaven, describing it as a positive and transformative force. He says, "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough." Here, yeast symbolizes the subtle yet powerful influence of God's kingdom. Though small in appearance, it permeates and transforms everything it touches, just as God's work in our lives grows to produce fellowship, transformation, and the supernatural provision of His grace.

This stands in contrast to the negative yeast of the Pharisees mentioned in Matthew 16:6. While their yeast corrupts and compromises, the yeast of the kingdom of heaven brings growth, unity, and life. It reminds us that even small acts of faith, kindness, or obedience can have profound, far-reaching effects when empowered by God's presence. Through this good yeast, we experience the fullness of God’s provision, His transformative power, and the joy of living in His fellowship.

The sugar—our enthusiasm, interests, and desires—remains the same in life. It represents the energy and drive we bring to our actions. However, the outcome depends on the yeast we allow to work within us. If we let the bad yeast, like the lifestyle of the Pharisees described in Matthew 16:6, corrupt our hearts with hypocrisy, worldly pursuits, and compromises, it will spoil us, leading to broken relationships, unrest, and distance from God.

But when we allow the good yeast, as Jesus describes in Matthew 13:33, symbolizing the kingdom of heaven, to influence our lives, it transforms us from within. This good yeast brings growth, joy, fellowship, and God’s supernatural provision, blessing every area of our lives.

The question is simple yet profound: Which yeast are you allowing to work in your life? Will you choose the corrupting influence of worldly desires or the life-changing power of God’s kingdom? The choice determines whether your life will be spoiled or blessed.

Prayer

Dear Lord, Thank You for being the good yeast that transforms our lives with Your love and grace. Help us to embrace the positive influences that draw us closer to You and to guard our hearts against anything that leads us astray. Fill us with a desire for what is pure, true, and life-giving, so that we may grow in Your likeness. Teach us to find our true joy, purpose, and fulfillment in You alone. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. -Matthew 16:6

Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God - Isaiah 66:9

Today, God is speaking about His assured grace for His children. This verse presents two phases: bringing to the birth and bringing forth. These phases are metaphorically described using the concept of childbirth.

Once a woman carries a child and completes the appointed time, the next phase is delivering the child. After the days are fulfilled, the delivery of the child is almost assured. However, there is a possibility of failure in both phases.

During the childbearing phase, accidents or harmful food consumed by the mother can lead to the death of the child, resulting in a miscarriage. In these times, many people also choose to terminate pregnancies for various reasons.

During delivery, there is a rare chance of a stillbirth or a baby being born with disabilities. Using this metaphor, God is reassuring us: If He blesses us with something, He will not prevent us from enjoying it.

For example, consider David. When he was a shepherd boy, God sent Samuel to anoint him as the future king of Israel. Despite being anointed, David remained in his father’s house as a shepherd. Then, God created opportunities for him—fighting Goliath, joining the king's army, and gaining prominence in the nation. Throughout all the challenges, God protected him and eventually appointed him as the king of Israel. Once God anoints, He appoints!

In your situation—whether it is your career, family, business, ministry, or anything else—God might have revealed His will and promised you a bright and glorious future. Yet, your current circumstances may seem far removed from that promise. But do not worry! Regardless of the reasons for your present challenges, if you fear God and strive to align yourself with His word, there is assurance.

"Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed." – Isaiah 66:5

In your situation, resistance, opposition, and plots against you may seem to hinder the fulfillment of what God has intended for you. But as long as you live by His word, you need not worry. The Lord God will be glorified in your life by fulfilling His word. That’s why once God anoints, He appoints!

If a rock is chosen to be made into a beautiful sculpture, it cannot instantly become one. It must endure many strikes, cuts, and bruises before it is transformed into a masterpiece. Similarly, you are chosen to be His testimony of glory. Through the process, all that is unnecessary will be removed, and you will emerge bearing the glory of God, a testimony for all those around you!

Prayer

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for reminding me today about the assurance of Your word. As long as I live by Your word, nothing can hinder my fulfillment or accomplishment. Once You anoint me for something, You will appoint me for it. Help me to practice reverence for Your word. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn. — Isaiah 61:1-2

Today, God is encouraging us by reminding us of His will, desire, and plan for us this year. As we enter the first week of the new year, God wants us to set our perspectives right and prepare ourselves to receive all that He has prepared for us.

The verses we have referred to, particularly others in this chapter, are well-known and often used as blessings and promises. Today, we will understand for whom this encouragement is intended.

If we observe the verse carefully, we notice the condition of the people: they are meek, brokenhearted, captive, imprisoned, and mourning. But why are they in such a state? Are they innocent victims of injustice? To answer this, we need to revisit a few chapters earlier:

"Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity." — Isaiah 59:1-4

Their current situation is the result of their iniquities. Because they disregarded the law and will of God, indulging in actions that went against Him, their circumstances turned dire. In other words, they paved their own path to destruction by straying from the path laid out by God’s word.

As the righteous Judge, God allowed their punishment so they might reflect on their circumstances and recognize the reasons behind them. But why is God sending them good tidings?

"And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him." — Isaiah 59:16

The heart of the heavenly Father longed for them. He could not abandon them in their suffering, even though their wickedness had brought it upon themselves. As the righteous Judge, He judged them and allowed them to face captivity, loss, and suffering. But as a loving Father, He opened a way for their salvation.

"And thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob." — Isaiah 60:16

God reminds His children of an essential truth: He Himself is their Savior. There is no other Savior besides Him. He is their Redeemer, the Mighty One, against whom no one can stand. Their position is, in fact, the most privileged, for the almighty, all-knowing, all-controlling, loving, and kindhearted God is on their side as their Savior, Redeemer, and Father.

But how can God change their situation? They are suffering because of their sins. From another perspective, they are wrongdoers, and how can God help them?

"For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them." — Isaiah 61:8

"Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified." — Isaiah 60:21

God emphasizes that He does not condone unrighteousness but instead transforms the unrighteous to righteousness. He will teach, lead, and arrange everything around them, giving them another opportunity to return to Him and enjoy His heavenly care, prosperity, and joy. That is why He declares:

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek...To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn." — Isaiah 61:1-2

Until now, you may have been in unfavorable situations. You might have lost opportunities, failed in your career, business, family, or personal life. But today, God is encouraging you to remember your relationship with Him.

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." — 2 Corinthians 5:17

If you are in Christ, you are a new creation. Remember this truth and listen to the good tidings of God. Forget whatever has happened until now. This year is the acceptable year of your Lord. He is ready to lead you through righteous paths to bless you abundantly. Will you respond to His loving call?

Prayer:

Dear loving heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for Your willingness to set my life on a fruitful path. Thank You for reminding me how much You love me. Even though I am responsible for my current difficult situations, You are ready to change them and transform them into glorious circumstances to glorify Your name in my life. I thank You in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
