बाबा हेडाखान, सन्त सोमबारी व उनके भक्त
उत्तराखण्ड के दोनों विलक्षण सन्त बाबा हेडाखान और सोमबारी गिरि महाराज के जीवन की घटनाओं से पता चलता है कि दोनों सन्त त्रिकालदर्शी थे। बाबा हेडाखान ने ग्रहण का स्नान पुख्तकर और हल्द्वानी में और सन्त सोमबारी ने कुंभ स्नान काकड़ी घाट और इलाहाबाद (प्रयाग) में किया था। एक भक्त ने सन्त सोमबारी से कुंभ-स्नान के लिए प्रयाग चलने की प्रार्थना की। अत्यन्त आग्रह देखकर महाराज ने कहा कि तुम चलो पीछे से आ रहा हूँ। वही हुआ। उस भक्त ने प्रयाग में अपने नेत्रों से स्वयं देखा कि महाराज सोमबारी कुंभ-स्नान कर रहे थे। काकड़ी घाट के शिष्यों ने इस अवधि में उन्हें आश्रम छोड़े नहीं देखा। कालान्तर में काकड़ी घाट से उसने अपने भाई को पत्र लिखकर सूचित किया कि महाराज ने कुंभ पर्व में यहाँ स्नान किया। उसके दर्शन से मैं कृतार्थ हो गया हूँ। भक्तों की निष्ठा और श्रद्धा से द्रवित होकर सन्त एक ही समय भिन्न-भिन्न स्थानों में कमण्डल से अमृत-बूंदों को मृत शरीर पर छिड़ककर, उसमें चेतना का संचार किया। धन्य है करुणा-सागर परम सन्त सोमबारी, जो भक्तों के हितार्थ मृत को भी कुछ समय तक वश में कर लेते हैं।

From the life events of the two extraordinary saints of Uttarakhand—Baba Haidakhan and Sombari Giri Maharaj—it is evident that both saints possessed divine insight (knowledge of past, present, and future). Baba Haidakhan took a ritual bath during an eclipse at Pukhkhar and in Haldwani, while Saint Sombari performed the sacred Kumbh bath at Kakdi Ghat and at Allahabad (Prayag).
Once, a devotee requested Saint Sombari to accompany him to Prayag for the Kumbh bath. Seeing his deep insistence, Maharaj said, “You go ahead, I will follow later.” And exactly that happened. The devotee personally saw Maharaj Sombari taking the Kumbh bath in Prayag with his own eyes. However, the disciples at Kakdi Ghat did not see him leave the ashram during that time.
Later, from Kakdi Ghat, the devotee wrote a letter to his brother informing him that Maharaj had bathed there during the Kumbh festival. He wrote that he felt blessed by having his दर्शन (divine sight).
Moved by the faith and devotion of his followers, the saint demonstrated miraculous abilities—being present at different places simultaneously. It is also believed that by sprinkling drops of nectar from his kamandal (water pot) on a dead body, he could restore consciousness in it.
Blessed indeed is Saint Sombari, the ocean of compassion, who for the benefit of his devotees could even keep death itself under control for some time.

यह बात उन दिनों की है जब मैं(श्री टिकराम जी ) बाबा के सान्निध्य में समय बिता रहा था। बाबा कोई साधारण संत नहीं थे। वे न तो कभी प्रवचन देते थे, न ही कोई औपचारिक शिक्षा। उनकी बातें सीधी नहीं होती थीं, बल्कि संकेतों और प्रतीकों में लिपटी होती थीं। उन्हें समझना आसान नहीं था, लेकिन जो भी उनके पास जाता, कुछ न कुछ सीखकर ही लौटता।
एक दिन की बात है। मैं पदमपुरी आश्रम में था। बाबा ने मुझे दो नारियल दिए और बोले, “इन्हें कस दो।” मैंने सोचा, बस दो ही नारियल हैं, जल्दी ही काम खत्म हो जाएगा। मैंने कद्दूकस उठाया और काम में लग गया।
जैसे ही मैंने पहला नारियल कसना शुरू किया, तभी कुछ मेहमान आश्रम में आने लगे। हर कोई अपने साथ दो-दो नारियल लेकर आता। मैंने सोचा, “अरे! ये क्या हो रहा है?” लेकिन बाबा ने कुछ नहीं कहा, बस मुस्कुरा रहे थे। मैं चुपचाप नारियल कसता रहा।
थोड़ी ही देर में नारियलों का ढेर लग गया। एक के बाद एक लोग आते गए और हर कोई दो नारियल देता गया। मैं लगातार कसता रहा, लेकिन ढेर कम होने की बजाय बढ़ता ही गया। दोपहर हो गई, हाथ थक गए, पीठ दुखने लगी, लेकिन काम खत्म होने का नाम नहीं ले रहा था।
तभी बाबा ने आवाज़ दी, “अब भी दो नारियल ही कस रहे हो? उठो अब, थक गए होगे।” उनकी मुस्कान में एक रहस्य छिपा था, जैसे वे पहले से जानते थे कि क्या होने वाला है।
उस दिन मैंने समझा कि संतों की लीला कितनी गूढ़ होती है। बाबा ने कुछ नहीं कहा, लेकिन उस अनुभव ने मुझे सिखा दिया कि सेवा में थकान नहीं होती, और जो कार्य छोटा लगता है, उसमें भी गहराई छिपी हो सकती है।
बाबा की बातें सीधे नहीं होती थीं, लेकिन जो उन्हें समझ ले, उसके जीवन में बदलाव आना तय था।

**Buying Firewood Worth 100 Rupees**

In the autumn of 1918, a wealthy local man named Jaiyalal Sah visited Baba’s ashram in Padampuri. There, he offered Baba 100 rupees, which was considered a very large amount in those days.

Baba called Shri Bageshwari and said,
“Bageshwari, look, someone has offered this money. What use do I have for it? I feel that this winter will be very severe, so why don’t you go to the market and buy firewood with this money?”

It was a huge amount of firewood! The ashram normally did not need so much wood. Even so, Bageshwari ji followed Baba’s instruction and bought high-quality *banj* (oak) firewood. There was so much wood that the entire storeroom of the ashram was filled.

That same year, in the bitter cold of January, when Baba left his physical body, Shri Bageshwari understood the true meaning of Baba’s action. Baba had already arranged the firewood needed for his own funeral rites, so that his devotees would not have to face any difficulty in finding wood in the freezing winter.

100 रुपये की लकड़ी खरीदना

सन 1918 की शरद ऋतु में, जैयलाल साह नाम के एक धनी स्थानीय व्यक्ति बाबा के पदमपुरी स्थित आश्रम में गए। वहाँ उन्होंने बाबा को 100 रुपये अर्पित किए, जो उन दिनों बहुत बड़ी राशि मानी जाती थी।

बाबा ने श्री बागेश्वरी को बुलाकर कहा,
“बागेश्वरी, देखो, किसी ने यह धन अर्पित किया है। मैं धन का क्या करूँ? मुझे लगता है कि इस बार सर्दी बहुत कड़ी पड़ेगी, तो क्यों न तुम बाज़ार जाकर इस पैसे से लकड़ी खरीद लाओ।”

यह बहुत अधिक लकड़ी थी! आश्रम को आमतौर पर इतनी लकड़ी की आवश्यकता नहीं होती थी। फिर भी, बागेश्वरी जी ने बाबा के आदेश का पालन किया और अच्छी गुणवत्ता वाली बाँज (ओक) की लकड़ी खरीदकर ले आए। लकड़ी इतनी अधिक थी कि आश्रम का पूरा भंडारघर भर गया।

उसी वर्ष, जनवरी की कड़ाके की सर्दी में जब बाबा ने अपना शरीर त्याग दिया, तब श्री बागेश्वरी को समझ आया कि बाबा ने अपने अंतिम संस्कार के लिए आवश्यक लकड़ी पहले से ही जुटवा दी थी, ताकि ठिठुरती सर्दी में उनके भक्तों को लकड़ी ढूँढने में कोई कष्ट न उठाना पड़े।
