Holy Family English Medium School, Surathkal, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great patriotic spirit and enthusiasm on the school campus.
The programme was presided over by V. Rev. Fr. Austin Peter Peres, Joint Secretary of the school. Mr. Francis Maxim Moras, Senior Traffic Warden, Dakshina Kannada, was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Vivek Deepak Pinto; Assistant Parish Priest, Mr.George Ligory D’Souza, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Parishad and Member of the Managing Committee; Mrs. Chitra Bhat, Vice President of the Parent-Teacher Association; and Mrs. Jane Dsouza, Senior Teacher, were also present on the dais.The programme began with the school band escorting the dignitaries to the venue, creating a lively and patriotic atmosphere. The programme began with the prayer song ‘Vande Mataram’ presented by the students of Class V, setting a patriotic tone for the celebration.The Cubs, Bulbuls, Scouts, and Guides presented an impressive march past with great discipline and coordination.

The National Flag was unfurled with due respect, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The sight of the Tricolour flying high filled the hearts of the students and guests with pride and love for the motherland.

The students of Class V added colour to the celebration with a patriotic song and beautiful dance presentation. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Mr. Francis Maxim Moras spoke about the sacrifices parents make for their children and urged the students to understand, respect, and value their efforts.
He advised the students to concentrate on their studies, work hard, and always follow the path of honesty and discipline. He also urged them to stay away from unfair practices and become responsible citizens of the country. He emphasised that serving the nation begins with being sincere, disciplined, and responsible in our everyday life. Mrs. Jane D’Souza delivered the welcome address.Mrs. Gulabi proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Rohini compered the programme.

The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Surathkal Unit, successfully organized “Elevate 2026”, a one-day youth program, on August 9, 2026, at 8:30 AM in the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Surathkal. The event brought together the enthusiastic youth of Surathkal Parish for a day of learning, inspiration, and fellowship.

The event commenced with a soulful prayer song, followed by a formal inaugural ceremony. The occasion was honoured by the presence of several dignitaries: Very Rev. Fr. Austin Peter Peres – Vicar Forane of Surathkal Deanery and Director of ICYM Surathkal, Fr. Vivek Deepak Pinto – Assistant Director, ICYM Surathkal, Mr. George Ligoury D’Souza – Vice President, Parish Pastoral Council, Mr. Lawrence D'souza – 21 Aayog Sanchalak, Ms. Sonali D’Souza – Joint Secretary, ICYM Mangalore Diocese & Deanery Representative, Mr. Sandeep Dsouza – ICYM Animator, Mr. Melson D’Souza – YCS Animator. Mr. Melson Rodrigues, ICYM Surathkal President, warmly welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
The program was formally inaugurated by Very Rev. Fr. Austin Peter Peres, who addressed the youth with encouraging words. The event featured two engaging sessions:
Session 1: Youcat & Ice-Breakers
• An energizing ice-breaking activity and action song set the tone.
• A session on Youcat was conducted by Ms. Jia Menezes, who shared valuable insights and reflections with the participants..

Session 2: Deepfake Fraud and Digital Safety
• A dynamic session on Deepfake Fraud by Ms. Shiny D'Souza highlighted the importance of digital awareness, online safety, and staying vigilant against deepfake-related fraud.

This was followed by a second round of action songs and fun-filled group games that fostered camaraderie and teamwork

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Elvita Winola Rodrigues, ICYM Secretary. The entire program was ably compered by Ms. Melita D'souza, an ICYM member, who kept the energy and flow engaging throughout the day.

“Partners in Faith Formation” – Parents’ Get-Together
Sacred Heart Church, Surathkal, organised a Parents’ Get-Together titled “Partners in Faith Formation” for the parents of Sunday Catechism children on 2nd August 2026, after the Second Mass. The programme was organised by the Commission for Faith Formation.
The programme was kick-started by the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Austin, who warmly welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person, Fr. Dr. Flavian Lobo, Professor at St. Joseph’s Inter-Diocesan Seminary.
Fr. Dr. Flavian Lobo was the resource person for the session. His session was highly interactive and enlightening, focusing on the importance of faith formation, value development and the role of parents in the overall growth of children. He highlighted the responsibility of parents in nurturing good values and strengthening the faith of their children. Various aspects of faith formation and the ways in which parents can guide and support their children were discussed.
The session was followed by an interactive quiz conducted by Fr. Vivek Deepak Pinto, which was enjoyed by the parents and added an engaging element to the programme.
The programme concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of parents and the Church working together as partners in nurturing children in faith, values and love.
