Imam Hasan ibn Ali (AS), the eldest grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was the second Imam according to Shia Islam and the son of Imam Ali (AS) and Lady Fatima al-Zahra (SA).
Imam Hasan (AS) was born on 15 Ramadan, 3 AH (625 CE) in Medina. He was raised in the household of the Prophet (PBUH), who showed him immense love and affection.
After the martyrdom of Imam Ali (AS) in 40 AH, Imam Hasan (AS) assumed the Imamate. He later entered into a peace agreement with Muawiya to prevent further bl'odshed among Muslims. He withdrew from political rule but continued guiding his followers and preserving the principles of Islam.
Imam Hasan (AS) was pois'ned in Medina in 50 AH (670 CE). Shia sources report that the poison was administered by his wife Ja'da bint al-Ash'ath.
