Mor Gregorios Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Hyderabad was elevated to the Status of a Cathedral on November 11th 2012. Holy Penta Mass ( Celebrating the mass by 5 Bishops) was conducted on November 11th. The chief celebrant was His Beatitiude Mor Baselios Thomas 1 and the Holy mass was assisted by the Bishops Mor The

motheosThomas of Kottayam Diocese, Mor Osthatheos Pathrose of Bangalore Diocese, Mor Anthonios Jacob of Mangalore Diocese and Mor Osthatheos Issac of Mylapore and Delhi Dioceses. This Church is under the Jurisdiction of Mylapore diocese.The ceremony was conducted during the midst of the holy mass. The Kalpana from Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka 1st Iwas, the Prince Patriarch of Antioch and all the East was read. There are cathedral Churches in New Delhi and Bangalore. This Church was started in the year 1976 by the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox people who settled here mainly from Kerala and other parts of India. For the first five years the services were conducted in a Chapel in the city and in 1980 the property in Mettuguda was purchased. The present church was blessed by Late Lamented His Beatitude the Catholicose Mor Baselios Paulose II on 11th of November 1983. The Church was shifted to the first floor and the new Church which we are using now was consecrated on 11th of November 2003 by His Beatitude Mor Baselios Thomas I the Catholicose and the Regional Head of the Church in India. This is the only Church in Andhra Pradesh where the waist Belt of St. Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ is enshrined. The Holy Relics of the Patron Saint Mor Gregorios of Parumala was also installed here on the day of declaring the Cathedral.
