Thomas (SPG) Church was established in the year 1852. The affairs of the church were carried out on the basis of established rules of Church of England and the Bi

shop of Madras Diocese was exercising episcopal jurisdiction over the church till 1947. SPG entered into a Memorandum of Agreement for its merger with the Church of South India (CSI) on 27.09.1947 and executed a registered Retirement and Transfer of Trust Deed. Thomas (SPG) Church was merged into CSI and transferred all its properties, administrative power and management authority in favour of CSI Trust Association. Since then the Bishop of CSI Medak Diocese is exercising episcopal jurisdiction over the church. Till 01.04.72 there was only one pastorate called St. Thomas SPG Pastorate in which Tamil and Telugu members were worshipping unitedly. With effect from 1.4.72 St. Thomas (SPG) Church was bifurcated into Tamil and Telugu pastorates by CSI Medak Diocese for the purpose of convenience and to enable both the congregations to worship in the same church in their own respective languages at different times.
