TUNGNATH – CHANDRASHILA PEAK SUBMIT TREK
Altitude: 3925 meters (13100 ft approx.)
Chopta is called ‘Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand’ and starting point of trek.
Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world.Tungnath temple, one among the five of Panch Kedar pilgrimages and the highest altitude temple dedicated to lord Shiva, is situated on the lap of Chandrashila peak in Chamoli district of Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand 3,680 meters above the sea level. Bearing the religious significance, Tungnath temple is one of the most visited pilgrimages of India. Arm of lord Shiva is worshipped in Tungnath temple. Legend of Panch Kedar states about its origin.
Chandrashila is summit of the Tungnath . It literally means "Moon Rock". It is located at a height of about 4,000 metres (13,000 ft) above sea level. This peak provides a spectacular view of Himalayas,especially Nandadevi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch and Chaukhamba peaks
Detail Itinerary (03 Night - 04 Days)
Day 01 : Rishikesh - Ukhimath(220km-7-8 hr drive)
Start your trip from Rishikesh via Devprayag (Confluence of Alaknanda & Bhagirathi, (the river is named "Ganges" after the Devprayag confluence). Arrival at Ukhimath by evening. Check into guest house. Dinner and overnight stay.
Ukhimath (1370 mts/4500 ft) is on the far side of the Mandakini River Valley and is the winter seat of the Kedarnath shrine, as well as the winter home of the priest who presides over the Kedarnath Temple. After the Kedarnath temple closes for the winters, a movable image of Lord Kedarnath is brought in a special procession to Ukhimath, where it resides until the Kedarnath temple reopens in late April or early May, and is visited by tens of thousands every season. The temples of Usha and Anirudh, & Shiva and Parvati are worth a visit.
Day 02 :Ukhimath-Sari Village-Deoria tal (30-35km-1hr drive/4km upward trek)
In the morning after breakfast drive to Sari village through dense forest and meadows. It is 30 kms drive from Ukhimath to Sari, takes no more than 60-70 minutes to reach and start your trek for Deoria Tal (4km) Upon arrival at Deoria tal set out the tents for overnight stay near the lake. This little mountain lake is positioned in such a way that one can see the reflection of the majestic Chaukhamba peak reflected in the tranquil water.Overnight stay in camp. Upon arrival at Tungnath Temple and visit the temple, have dinner and overnight stay in tent.
Day 03 : Deoria Tal-Chopta-Tungnath(30 km drive-4 km descend & 4km upward trek)
After an early breakfast trek 4 km descend and drive for Chopta.
The surroundings of the Chopta grasslands are untouched and the nearby forests are ideal for little excursions, and relaxation. After lunch trek to Tungnath the trek is in excess of 3 kms. Enroute one passes amidst lush green meadows and one can see the entire range of snow capped . Upon arrival at Tungnath Temple and visit temple then trek 1 km for Chandrashilla and enjoy the sunset, trek descend upto Chopta/Duggalbitta Stay in Hotel.
Day 04 : Chopta/Duggalbitta – Rishikesh(250 km drive)
After an early breakfast drive for onward journey.

Important Information
There is no electricity in Chopta. It is advisable to have your battery charged before hand and carry a spare battery.
