SALANGABAHAL PARISH Salangabahal Parish, St Thomas The Apostle Church(1972) After the Second World War, the Jesuits faced two major problems - personnel and finance. Rt. Rev.

The Diocese of Rourkela was created by the Papal Bull "cum Cordi" dated July 4, 1979 by taking the entire civil district of Sundargarh from the diocese of Sambalpur in Orissa. At the time of er****on of Rourkela, the diocese of Sambalpur, erected in 1951, comprised the four Orissa districts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bolangir and Dhenkanal. The new diocese of Rourkela is bounded on the north by Arc

hdiocese of Ranchi and on the South by the diocese of Sambalpur to the west and the north-west lies the diocese of Raigarh, while the diocese of Jamshedpur and Balasore lie to the east and South-East. Jesuit Missionaries began evangelization of this part of the Chotanagpur Mission, Fr Constant Livens (1856 - 1893) being the most prominent among them. They, therefore, requested the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) who had been working in the neighbouring states of Central India since 1932, to take up the Gangpur Mission in Northern Orissa. The SVDs set their feet in this mission land in 1948. The Late Bishop Herman Westermann, SVD, who had several years of experience in Central India, was ordained the first Bishop of Sambalpur in 1951. During his tenure as well as that of Bishop Raphael Cheenath, SVD (1974 - 1979), mission work in this ecclesiastical territory progressed in leaps and bounds. Alphonse Billung, S.V.D. was appointed the first Bishop of Rourkela on November 3, 1979. Today the Diocese of Rourkela owes a lot to the relentless zeal and indefatigable labour of these eminent personalities, and their co - Missionaries - Priests, Brothers, Sisters, Lay people, generous benefactors and all well-wishers.

(HEB 12:18-19, 21-24)
Brothers and sisters:
You have not approached that which could be touched
and a blazing fire and gloomy darkness
and storm and a trumpet blast
and a voice speaking words such that those who heard
begged that no message be further addressed to them.
Indeed, so fearful was the spectacle that Moses said,
"I am terrified and trembling."
No, you have approached Mount Zion
and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem,
and countless angels in festal gathering,
and the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven,
and God the judge of all,
and the spirits of the just made perfect,
and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant,
and the sprinkled Blood that speaks more eloquently
than that of Abel.

Photos of Church fired & vandalised idol of Mother Mary. They have attacked two parishes( Bihabandh & Salangabahal) rourkela diocese dist. sundergarh , odisha.
Govt.machinery, local political leaders and our faithfuls are gathered near the church's.The miscreants have also vandalised the temples idol at Lakhimposh village near Bihabandh. Govt.machinery has assured for the safety and security and requested to maintain peace in the locality. Our Archbishop Rt.rev.John Barwa SVD and local Rourkela bishop has been informed.Rourkela bishop has called an emergency review meeting tomorrow at Rourkela for priest and church leaders for the action to be taken. TV news and press reporters has taken the report from eye witness local public.This may be for various reasons:-
1.To create panic by some group among Christian people.
2. Apart for 2019 election.
3. Increasing of Christian faithful in this area.
4. Jealous for big and new Church construction in New Parish.
5. Support and involvement of few internal rival faithful group in New Parish.
