The Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple is a protected monument under the 1961 Act of The Karnataka Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act. The temple is currently maintained and conserved by the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, under the Mysore division of the Government of Karnataka.
