Dear SÄdhakas,
Tomorrow marks the most powerful moment of Navaratri ā the Sandhi KÄlam between Durga Aį¹£į¹amÄ« š and MahÄ NavamÄ« š. According to the š Devi Mahatmyam (Chandi Path, Chapter 7), it was at this very junction that from the frown of MahÄdevÄ« arose a fierce form who destroyed the demons Chanda & Munda āļø. The Goddess then declared Her name as Chamunda šļø, the slayer of negativity and protector of the sÄdhaka.
š Åloka (Devi Mahatmyam 7.5ā6):
> Tataįø„ kopÄt tato jÄtÄ bhrÅ«kį¹£epÄt tÄ«kį¹£į¹a-locanÄ ą„¤
Caį¹įøamuį¹įøau ca saį¹
grÄme jaghÄna ca mahÄbalÄ ą„„
Meaning:
From the frown of Deviās eyebrows, with blazing eyes, arose a terrible form who in battle destroyed the great demons Chanda and Munda. The Devi then proclaimed Her name as Chamunda.
The Kalika PurÄį¹a š and Ta***ic texts š® proclaim this Sandhi Samayam ā³ (48 minutes: 24 before Aį¹£į¹amÄ« ends + 24 after NavamÄ« begins) as the supreme time to invoke the fierce Mother. In Shakta traditions, this is celebrated as Sandhi PÅ«jÄ šŖ, said to equal the fruits of the entire Navaratri worship.
āØ It is believed that sÄdhana, japa, and pÄraayaį¹a performed during this time will increase your sÄdhana-phala a hundredfold šÆšŖ·.
