The church in its present form has a deep rooted history of its formation days. Prior to 1984 the community of the faithful were being recognized under the banner of Kerala Catholic Association and post 1984 under the name of St. Thomas Catholics of India (STCI). During the year 1984 under the Leadership of Rev. George Kavukkattu, as the chaplain of this ardent community, a centre was formed which
covered the faithful spread across Pimpri, Bhosari, Nehru nagar and Kalewadi. The faithful community under the leadership of Fr. Geroge Kavukkattu initiated to conduct Novenas to our Patron Saint Sister Alphonsa, who was still not elevated to the position of “Blessed”. With the formation of Diocese of Kalyan in the year 1988, this centre got synced up under the Diocese and the then Bishop His Excellency Mar Paul Chittilappilly permitted the Centre Head to convert the areas under the Centre to individual Parishes to be christened against the respective Patron Saints of their own choice. It was at this juncture that the faithful of the now St. Alphonsa Shrine chose to name their Parish against a Saint of the present century, whom the younger generation could very closely associate with and thus confer themselves more to the growth of the Parish. A special permission had to be sought by Fr. George Kavukkattu to Bishop H.E. Paul Chittilappilly, who in turn wrote to Pope John Paul II seeking his consent as the present Patron was still not venerated to the post of Saint. It was a moment of happiness and joy when the consent letter arrived. Blessed Alphonsa Church was thus christened in the year 1989 with just over 198 families (migrants from different diocese in Kerala), today this Parish has grown in Leaps and bounds with around 260 registered families and 50+ floating membership of bachelors and spinsters working in IT firms and other institutions. In the year 2008 Blessed Alphonsa was venerated to the position of Saint Alphonsa. Ever since its establishment, countless miracles are attributed to this Shrine. Numerous sick, jobless, parents who long for children, those seeking apt life partners seek solace and flock to this Shrine. Taking into consideration of these facts, and primarily for the ease of intercessory prayers, the relics of the Patron Saint was brought to this church and hence declared as a “SHRINE” by Bishop His Excellency Mar Thomas Elavanal in the year 2010. Today the Shrine stands tall by contributing whole heartedly to the various needs of the society by helping the needy and the poor in terms of their education and welfare needs. Also there are numerous organizations functioning under the Shrine like the Pithruvedi, Mathrusangam, Youth, Nodel Centre of Karunya Trust, Catechism, Altar Angels and the Church Choir joining their hands together for the overall growth of the Shrine in terms of faith related activities.
