'सनातन' का शाब्दिक अर्थ है - शाश्वत या 'सदा बना रहने वाला', यानी जिसका न आदि है न अन्त। हिन्दू धर्म को 90 हजार वर्ष पुराना बताया जाता है. हिन्दू धर्म में सबसे पहले 9057 ईसा पूर्व स्वायंभुव मनु हुए, 6673 ईसा पूर्व में वैवस्वत मनु हुए. पौराणिक मान्यता के अनुसार, भगवान श्रीराम का जन्म 5114 ईसा पूर्व और श्रीकृष्ण का जन्म 3112 ईसा पूर्व बताया जाता हैं.

हिन्दू धर्म को सनातन धर्म या वैदिक सनातन वर्णाश्

रम धर्म भी कहा जाता है।
