Located in the lap of Himraj ,at a distance of 20 km from the headquarters of Pithoragarh district, 4 kms away from the place called Satgarh, the Dhwaj temple sits gracefully at the summit of mountain range. Throughout the recitation of Jai maata

di creates passion that enables devotees to complete the climb with ease. The beautiful scenes of the entire route keep motivating the passion of devotees to complete the uphill climb. There are few legends that are being said about the establishment of this temple. There is one legend that says the name of the above place was kept ‘Dhwaja’ because of Shiva's name. It was named by the ancestors of the ‘Kapdi’ clan. It is also said that there is a cave almost 50 feets long, where Lord shiva’s presence is believed and so this part of land is associated with Khandenath.
