Maa Barala Devi is worshipped as a form of Mahalakshmi, deeply rooted in local traditions and Vaishnavism. She represents the creative power (Shakti) of the universe. In this divine relationship, Lord Krishna is the 'Shaktiman' (the source of all power), and Maa Barala Devi is the 'Shakti' (the energy itself); they are incomplete without each other.
Shri Krishna Narayan is the Supreme Brahman and Yogeshwar, the controller of all Maya and energies. While Barala Devi (Mahalakshmi) is a powerful local deity, she is considered an expansion or a manifestation of Krishna’s own Lila (divine play) and Shakti. Therefore, she is not seen as separate from or superior to Krishna.
While Shri Hari Krishna Narayan Vishnu is the Supreme Soul (Paramatma) and the Absolute Truth (Parambrahma), Barala Devi is the form of Mahalakshmi worshipped in specific regions, such as Odisha. Maa Barala Devi is immensely powerful, yet her authority and power originate from Krishna, who is the primordial source of all existence and the Almighty. All energies in the universe are created by Shri Krishna Narayan.
Maa Barala Devi is Mahalakshmi, Mahamaya, and Yogamaya. She is the Yogamaya energy and the eternal consort of Shri Krishna.
