The Diocesan Family Service Centre (DFSC) celebrates the Advent season as the Prolife month for the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman.
In this regard the DFSC has released a planner or things to do as an individual, as a community and as society at large throughout the month so that we can change the Culture of Death prevalent in our society to Culture of Life.

Parish Priest of Our Lady of Hope Church, Chinchinim and the Co-ordinator of the Responsible Parenthood Department of the Diocesan Family Service Centre, Goa and counsellor for successfully defending his doctoral thesis (PhD) at the University yesterday and attaining another feather in his cap.
Congratulations Dr. (Rev). Clifford Castelino on getting a loud round of applause at the end of your defense from the examiners and scholars present. It was really a lot of hard work and struggle, that too working in Parishes during the study period !!!

Pope's missionary prayer intention for May
The missionary prayer intention of Pope Francis for the month of May is that Mary’s intercession help Christians in secularized cultures be open to proclaiming Jesus. In one of his weekly audiences during the Year of Faith, the now retired Pope Benedict XVI had talked about the danger of what he termed as “practical atheism.” People experience that kind of atheism when “the truths of faith or religious rites are not denied but are merely deemed irrelevant to daily life, detached from life, pointless. So it is that people often believe in God in a superficial manner, and live as though God did not exist.” Practical atheism fuels secularization. Wealth and pleasure are pursued instead of God. According to Pope Francis such a secularism generates a selfish and utilitarian outlook of fellow humans leading to a “culture of waste” whose “victims are precisely the weakest and most fragile human beings—the unborn, the poorest, the sick and elderly, the seriously handicapped—who are in danger of being ‘thrown away,’ expelled from a system that must be efficient, useful and profitable at all costs. Pope Francis elaborated: “In fact, this false model of man and society implements a practical atheism by rejecting the Word of God, which says: ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.’ The way to freedom from practical atheism and its “culture of waste is through accepting the deep wisdom of Gods’ Word.” The Pope continued, “If we allow this Word to call into question our ways of thinking and acting, our standards, our priorities and our choices, then things can change.” The Blessed Virgin Mary is the one who was so fully open to God’s Word that he, the Son of God, took flesh in her womb. Let us join the Pope this month, in praying to the Virgin Mary that we may be open to this Word in such a way that he may be born in anew in us and speak of faith and love through us to secularized souls.

Prayers and Financial Assistance to the Victims of the Nepal Earthquake

Dearly Beloved,

Greetings of Peace !
We are all aware of the devastating earthquake that hit our neighbouring country of Nepal a week ago, leaving presumably some ten thousand dead and several thousands of injured, not to speak of the unprecedented loss of property. The extent of the devastation, which has flattened thousands of villages, will not be known until the end of the ongoing search and rescue operations. Huge populations are rendered homeless and are living like refugees and the outbreak of an epidemic seems to be imminent.
The Church has always risen to such occasions and gone out of her way to extend all possible help to the affected populations. The Apostolic Vicar of Nepal – the only Catholic Bishop in that country -- has requested Caritas India to support and assist Caritas Nepal in carrying forward the mammoth task of rescue and relief operations. Caritas India has already begun sending human and material resources to provide succour to the affected people.
Further, the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India has made an earnest appeal to the Bishops of India to encourage Catholic faithful, institutions and people of goodwill to express their solidarity and support and to make voluntary donations to this humanitarian cause.
The Church in Goa has been generous in the past, when natural calamities of this nature have created havoc in the lives of entire populations. Time has come to rise up again to the call of distress. Recalling the exhortation of St. Paul, “Let love be genuine” (Rom. 12:9), let us respond to this great challenge and help the surviving victims of the Nepal earthquake to reconstruct their lives and strengthen their faith in humankind.
We welcome your generous monetary contributions. Cheques and demand drafts may be drawn in favour of Caritas-Goa, A/c 025900101018046 Corporation Bank, Panaji Branch (with a note that the amount is towards the Nepal Disaster). They, along with cash donations, may be handed over to the respective parish priests or at the Caritas-Goa office, Instituto N.S. Piedade, Panjim, which will also receive any collections made in our churches, chapels or institutions.
We call upon our Pastors as well as Superiors of religious institutions to announce the contents of this Circular at Sunday masses and regular meetings and thus enable everyone to take part in this drive of the Church in Goa to bring relief to our suffering brethren in Nepal.

May the Lord inspire us to be generous and thus share in a special way in His ongoing Mission of Liberation.

Archbishop-Patriarch’s Easter Message
“Jesus, who was crucified, is risen” is the cry of joy bursting forth from our hearts. It is the culmination of the Good News our Redeemer brought for the world and to us all. It is the triumph of love over hatred, triumph of joy over sadness, triumph of mercy over the hardness of heart.
As i join the Christian community in Goa, Daman and Diu, in expressing my joy for this event, I also pray that the Church in Goa may rise to the occasion and express this joy in their daily living, in their families and neighbourhoods by giving victory to values coming from above.
And in the name of the community I extend these greetings to all the people of good will with wishes that that the same values, which are universal, may prevail in their lives for a more just and peaceful living for the progress of the Nation, in particular, and of the humanity in general...
